The dedication of the newly constructed Tommy Morrison Field at the Center Youth Baseball Park on Roughrider Drive in Center has been delayed, according to Board member Bob Reeves.

The field, which will host the Center Youth Baseball 13-14 Year Old Division games, had been originally set for Monday, but has been postponed because the contractor has not completed all the work and therefore would like to delay the ceremony.

CENTER -- The Twins threw the Center Youth Baseball 11-12 Year Old Division into a three-team logjam as they used a four-run third inning and two dramatic runs in the bottom of the sixth to knock off the first-place Red Sox, 8-6, here at Center Noon Lions Club Field Thursday evening.

Tommy Morrison Baseball Field will be dedicated at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 3, at the Center Youth Baseball Park located off Roughrider Drive. A game will follow after the dedication.

The field built for the 13-14 year old age division will complete the ball fields at the City of Center -Center Youth Baseball Park.

CENTER -- The Diamondbacks have asserted themselves as the early team to beat in the Center Youth Baseball 11-12 Year Old Division. Posting an unbeaten mark through three games, they were matched up against the Twins, a squad that was trying to close the early-season gap in the league lead. That wasn't meant to be as Colton Geoke sliced a pair of singles and Brett Clark added one of his own for a 4-1 D-backs win Monday night here at the Center Noon Lions Field.

Due to students preparing and taking TAKS tests, the Center Youth Baseball games scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled, according to CYBA board member Holly Burns.

There were originally no games scheduled for tonight (Monday), and no practices scheduled. There were, however, games on the schedule for Tuesday. Those games, along with any practices, have been cancelled, Burns stated.

With spring in the air, that means baseball and softball diamonds are filled with players having fun and friends and family members are out supporting them. The Center Youth Baseball league opened last weekend and is in full swing. The Center ASA Softball League will hold its opening ceremonies this weekend, and the Shelbyville opening day is set for next Saturday, April 10.

CENTER -- The weather was gorgeous and the teams and their fans were out in droves on Saturday as the 2010 Center Youth Baseball League began on a positive note on Saturday.

Center Mayor John D. Windham was once again on hand to throw out the opening pitch and the White Sox's Kaden LaRock was there to catch it.

CENTER -- The opening day of the 2010 Center Youth Baseball season didn't mean a lot of offense for the 9-10 Year-Old White Sox, but the squad used smart baserunning to cash in eight walks and a pair of hits and turn them into a 10-2 victory over the Yankees in both teams' season openers here at Center City Park.

Youth baseball and softball action is about to get underway in Shelby County, with area leagues holding their opening ceremonies the next three weekends.

The Center Youth Baseball Association will hold its opening day ceremonies Saturday, March 27, at the Center Youth Baseball Park on Roughrider Drive. The ceremonies will be held in conjunction with nine league games on that day.
