VB: Williams heads All-16-3A spiker selections

Each member of the Carthage Lady Bulldogs were honored recently as a superlative or a member of the All-District 16-3A volleyball team by the coaches in the league after CHS completed a 20-15 season mark and a 5-5 league record.
Lady Dawg senior outside hitter Sara Williams was named the 16-3A Most Valuable Hitter, while sophomore setter Kenzie Tate was named the Most Valuable Newcomer in the district.
Williams finished the year with a team-high 326 kills and the most blocks on the squad with 76. She also added 215 digs (third on team), 60 service aces and 11 assists.
Tate, who plays setter on the team, 'quarterbacked' the squad to a team-high 915 assists, while finishing with 125 digs, 22 blocks, 58 aces and 29 kills.
Other District 16-3A superlatives included: Most Valuable Player, Savannah Voelzke (Spring Hill); Most Valuable Blocker, T'Asia black (Spring Hill); Co-Most Valuable Setters, Jerri Bass (Spring Hill) and Shaylee Fennell (Gilmer); Most Valuable Defensive Specialist, Kenya Nix (Gilmer); and Coach of the Year, Karen Brundrett (Spring Hill).
Carthage's Macy Cherry was named to the First-Team All-District 16-3A squad. The senior outside hitter was second on the team with 239 kills, adding 184 digs, 27 digs, 35 aces and three assists.
Two Lady Bulldog players were named to the second team as senior libero Sarah Clakley and junior outside hitter Shelby Soape were honored.
Clakley led the Carthage squad in digs with 325 on the season. She also had 48 aces. Soape contributed 175 kills, 265 digs, 43 blocks, 46 service aces and 15 assists.
Four members of the team were given honorable mention. Those players included junior middle blocker Jordan Holmes, junior middle blocker Tambra Mitchell, junior defensive specialist Chasity Traylor and sophomore defensive specialist Morgan Wedgeworth.
Holmes posted 120 kills and 41 kills on the season, while Mitchell added 33 kills and 21 blocks, Traylor tallied 123 digs, 20 aces and 17 kills and Wedgeworth totaled 85 digs.
Carthage team members named to the Academic All-District squad included Williams, Cherry, Clakley, Holmes, Soape, Tate, Traylor and Wedgeworth.
