Picking up a win against District 16-3A leader Henderson was a huge task for the Carthage Lady Bulldogs Friday night in an effort to keep their slim postseason hopes alive. CHS roll to a 25-5 Set 1 victory and later took a 2-1 lead in the match. But CHS but couldn't hold off the Lady Lions, falling in a five-set match, 25-5, 27-29, 25-9, 21-15, 12-15, in Bulldog Gymnasium.
The setback, Carthage's third in their last four outings, officially eliminated the Lady Dawgs from the playoff chase as they dropped to 19-15 on the year, 4-5 against District 16-3A competition. Two of their last three matches have gone to the full five sets.
CHS finished the season Tuesday night at home against Pittsburgh.
Sara Williams led the Lady Bulldogs at the net against the Lady Lions, securing 23 kills, to go along with 17 digs and a pair of service aces. Macy Cherry also had a strong effort up front, with 14 kills, a pair of blocks, six digs and two service aces.
Chasity Traylor was one of the leaders defensively, picking up 11 digs and three aces at the line. Morgan Wedgeworth had six digs and an ace.
Kenzie Tate quarterbacked the team with 43 assists, to go along with 10 digs and a kill. Sara Clakely had 14 digs defensively.
Jordan Holmes pitched in four digs, two kills and a block, while Tambra Mitchell finished with two kills a dig and three blocks. Shelby Soape had 10 digs on the defensively, to go along with four kills and six service aces.
