Despite a straight-set victory over Gladewater on the road Tuesday night, the Carthage Lady Bulldogs may be on the outside looking in when it comes to the 2011-12 Class 3A volleyball playoffs this year.
Carthage entered its final two games of the regular season on Friday trailing Henderson and Gilmer by two games in the District 16-3A standings. Spring Hill (28-7) stand alone in first place with a 7-1 league mark, followed by the Lady Lions (20-15) and the Lady Buckeyes (18-15), who are both 6-2 and still in the title chase.
Carthage owns a 19-14 season record, but a 4-4 district. The Lady Dawgs host Henderson on Friday and then will close out the regular season Tuesday night at home against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 1-7 and Gladewater (3-22) stands at 0-8 and are the two teams entering Friday's play that were officially eliminated from the postseason.

Carthage defeated Gladewater, 25-12, 25-11, 25-14 -- On Tuesday night Carthage went on the road and cruised past the Lady Bears in a straight-set match.
Kenzie Tate posted 30 assists, while adding three digs an ace and a kill. Sara Williams posted 14 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and three aces. Shelby Soape posted 12 digs, six kills, two blocks, an ace and one assist.
Macy Cherry chipped in seven kills, nine digs and an ace, while Sarah Clakley had nine digs and three aces.
Chasity Traylor managed four digs, an assist and a service ace, Jordan Holmes posted eight kills, a dig, two blocks and an assist, and Tambra Mitchell picked up a block and a kill. Morgan Wedgeworth tallied four digs and an assist.
The Carthage junior varsity remained undefeated with a 2-0 win over Gladewater.
Gilmer defeats Carthage, 25-16, 25-15, 16-25, 11-25, 15-12 -- Carthage and Gilmer went to the limit on Friday night before the Lady Buckeyes pulled out a key five-set match over Carthage in Buckeye Gymnasium.
Cherry and Williams had big nights for Carthage. Cherry tallied 19 kills, five digs and an ace, while Williams tallied 14 kills, 14 digs and two aces.
Soape added 15 digs, to go along with six kills, while Tate handed out 41 assists and eight digs.
Holmes had six kills and three digs, Clakley had 14 digs, Wedgeworth produced four digs, Mitchell had two kills and Traylor finished with two digs and an ace.
