Strong play at the net Friday afternoon resulted in nine kills by Jordan Holmes, while the Carthage Lady Bulldogs received eight service aces from Sara Williams as they swept Gladewater, 3-0, in Bulldog Gymnasium.
Carthage cruised to the first set win, 25-13, before blowing to a 25-11 win in Set 2. The Lady Dogs weren't seriously challenged in Set 3 either, winning 25-14.
The win was Carthage's second straight as the Lady Bulldogs improved their District 16-3A mark to 2-1, while capturing their ninth match in their last 10 outings to improve to 17-11 overall. Carthage will be in Henderson tonight (Tuesday) to face the Lady Lions. Freshmen action will start at 5 p.m., with the junior varsity teams squaring off at about 6:15 and the varsity teams at approximately 7:15 p.m.
The Lady Dogs will visit Pittsburgh on Friday (9th,JV,V), with a 5 p.m. starting time.
Williams was all over the court, not only posting a match-high in service aces, but also posting eight kills and four digs.
Holmes posted a pair of digs and one block in addition to her match-high nine kills.
Carthage's Sarah Clakley contributed eight digs and a pair of service aces, while Chasity Traylor finished with five kills, six digs and one assist.
Kenzie Tate had 23 assists in the match, to go along with five digs and a service ace; Morgan Wedgeworth had five digs and a pair of service aces; Shelby Soape had five digs, two aces and three kills and Tambra Mitchell contributed four kills and a block.
In the junior varsity match, the Lady Bulldogs remained undefeated in District 16-3A play at 3-0 with a 25-13, 25-21 win over Gladewater.
