After winning just seven matches a year ago, including two in league action, the Timpson Lady Bear volleyball team has already bettered those two marks this year before it has reached the midway mark in the District 20-1A race.
The Lady Bears stayed in the playoff chase on Tuesday night at home as they recorded their third win in their last four matches with a straight-set win over Karnack in Herbert Eakin Gymnasium.
It wasn't an easy sweep for Timpson as they claimed a 25-21 win in Set 1, before slipping past Karnack in Set 2, 26-24. THS used that momentum to claim the third set, 25-17.
Dustee Tipton led the Timpson offensive charge with 19 digs, three kills and a pair of aces, while Madison Pierce added eight digs and three kills.
Harley Martin played well defensively recording 16 digs, while adding four assists and two kills. Caitlyn Smith posted six digs and a kill, Stefanie Hairgrove had seven digs, while Rachel Reeves added four.
Tammi Harris contributed three digs and one block to the cause and Kaylie Bush had two aces, three digs and one assist.
The Lady Bears, who also recorded a league win over Gary, will close out the first round of district action on today (Friday) when they travel to Beckville to face the Ladycats (20-12, 3-2) in a key league matchup. There will be only a varsity match, getting underway at 4:30 p.m.
