Coming off a tough loss to state-ranked New Diana at home, the Beckville Ladycat volleyball team needed something positive to get them rolling again after their seven-match winning streak was snapped. The beginning of league play was just what the 'doctor ordered' as they went to Bobcat Gymnasium Friday and opened District 20-1A action with a 3-0 win over Gary.
Beckville took game one, 25-13, before recording consecutive 25-15 victories to claim the straight set win.
Shelbi Jo Dodson recorded seven digs, while Emma Smith added 20 assists in the victory to lead Beckville, which improved to 17-10 on the season, 1-0 in league play. Gary fell to 5-8 on the season, 0-1 in district play.
The Ladycats recorded 36 kills in the match, with the most coming in Game 1 when they produced 13 and had just three errors.
Rieke Ivy led Beckville in kills with nine, while T'Ouja Adams and Dodson each had eight and Taylor Lindsey produced seven. Cheyenne Haynes added two kills.
In addition to Smith's 20 assists, Montana Searcy added seven and Haynes added two.
Dalye Alfaro produced seven service aces for the Ladycats, while Dodson added seven, Smith had four and Lindsay added three.
Rieke and Alfaro each chipped in six digs apiece, while Maya Bradford tallied five, Smith finished with four and Searcy had three.
