Timpson first-year head volleyball coach Tori Neugebauer is continuing to see progress on her team as they progress toward league play, which will begin in less than two weeks.
The Lady Bears posted a 2-3 mark at the Groveton Tournament recently, before dropping nondistrict matches to Corrigan-Camden and Tatum on the road.
Timpson is currently 4-10 on the year heading into today's (Friday's) home match against San Augustine. The varsity is scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m. at the John Herbert Eakin Sports Complex. The Lady Bears will open league play on Sept. 14 with a home match (5 p.m.) against Carlisle.
Despite falling to Tatum 3-0 on Tuesday, Neugebauer was pleased with the continued improvement of her squad.
"The girls really played awesome against Tatum," the coach praised. "It was great to see what they can accomplish when they come together as a team.
"The scores may not have shown it, but they did a fantastic job! Tatum was a very tough opponent and we had some great rallies against them. I'm very proud of they played and hope they play like that the rest of the season."
The Lady Eagles won the opening game, 25-11, before holding off Timpson 25-10 and 25-8 in the final two contests.
THS opened the Groveton tournament with victories over the Groveton junior varsity and Latexo, before falling to Trinity during pool play on the first day of the tourney.
Coming back in bracket play, THS dropped matches to Corrigan-Camden and Kennard and was eliminated from the tournament.
On Aug. 27 the Lady Bears were on the road once again, falling 3-0 to a stingy Corrigan-Camden team.
