After dropping its first two games against Whitehouse Tuesday night, the Carthage Lady Bulldogs volleyball team dug in defensively and came alive to capture three straight wins and claim an exciting 3-2 victory over the Lady Wildcats at Bulldog Gymnasium.

The victory moves the Lady Dawgs three games over .500 to 12-9 on the season. CHS will return to action on Friday when the Lady Dawgs travel to Sabine for a varsity-only date at 4:30 p.m.

Sarah Clakley paced the Carthage defense with 24 digs, while Lacie Shahan added nine, Aubrey Hull and Macy Cherry each added six, Taylor Price tallied four and Sara Williams came up with two.

In the blocks department, Anderson tallied eight to lead the Lady Dawgs, with Iesha Bryant adding three and Cherry and Shelby Soape with two apiece.

Hannah Hildebrand handed out 37 assists in the match, with Hull adding three and Clakley finishing with two.

Williams and Anderson both blasted 16 kills, while Bryant, Cherry and Shelby Soape each added five and Shahan added one.

Hull also recorded six service aces, with Hildebrand and Shahan each adding four.

Whitehouse took the first two games of the match, 25-19, 25-21 and appeared to have Carthage on the ropes. However, the Lady Dawgs came back to record a 25-16 win in Game 3 and evened the match with a hard-fought 25-22 win in Game 4. Carthage then held off the Lady Wildcats in the deciding game, 15-12.

Carthage Head Coach Lauren Dennard said after some tough losses at the Robert E. Lee Tournament this past weekend, where the team posted a 2-4 mark, she is seeing signs of her squad coming together with the league race still almost three weeks away on Sept. 21.

The next home action for Carthage is scheduled for next Tuesday, Sept. 7, against Robert E. Lee. There will be 9th, JV and varsity action, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
