VB: Lady Bears back on track, 3-0

With District 20-1A volleyball schedule set to begin next week, the Timpson Lady Bears could not have picked a better time to put together a solid effort. THS traveled to Longview Tuesday night and rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Longview Christian.

The victory, which the Lady Bears won by scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-23, improved Timpson to 5-11 on the season, snapping a five-match losing skid to some tough competition.

A pair of cross-county rivalries brought out the best in Shelby County athletes this past week as the contests between Shelbyville and Joaquin and another between Timpson and Tenaha highlighted local play. But the most dominating individual effort during the Week of Aug. 29-Sept. 4 came from a little farther north.

Timpson first-year head volleyball coach Tori Neugebauer is continuing to see progress on her team as they progress toward league play, which will begin in less than two weeks.

The Lady Bears posted a 2-3 mark at the Groveton Tournament recently, before dropping nondistrict matches to Corrigan-Camden and Tatum on the road.

TIMPSON -- The Timpson Lady Bears had their workout schedule changed to early mornings recently because of teachers' inservice and the alteration apparently caused the team to 'wake up' gainst Kennard Tuesday night here at the Eakin Sports Complex to the tune of a 3-0 sweep. THS won the match, 25-20, 25-18, 25-10.

The victory snapped a five-match losing skid for the Lady Bears as they improved to 2-5 on the year as the team prepares to take part in the Groveton tourney this Thursday through Saturday.

CARTHAGE -- The competition was stiff for the Timpson Lady Bears and first-year Head Coach Tori Neugebauer as they tried to continue the pace they set when they opened the season with a 3-2 win over Kennard on Tuesday.

The 'dog days' of August are here and that means high school athletes are returning to the gridiron, volleyball courts and cross country trails with high expectations of district and possibly State titles as they prepared for their upcoming season openers this month.

The Timpson Lady Bear volleyball program will be under the direction of a new coach in 2010 and she is excited about the year ahead. In fact, the coach has scheduled a meeting to visit and get to know perspective athletes and their parents.

Tori Neugebauer has taken over the helm of the Lady Bears. She takes control of a team that posted a 9-15 overall mark, including a 3-7 District 21-1A record. Both marks were season highs for the program.

The Panola College Fillies volleyball program will be holding their annual volleyball camp July 6-8.

The camp will be held in the Arthur Johnson Gymnasium from 1 to 5 p.m. with an early drop-off at 12:30 p.m. and a late pick-up at 5:30 p.m.

Timpson completed the 2009 volleyball season Friday night on the road as the Beckville Ladycats took a 3-0 decision from the Lady Bears. BHS won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-19.
