The Garrison Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs made every effort to sweep the competition at the District 20-1A Track & Field Meet held last Wednesday and Thursday at Beauchamp Stadium in Beckville. The 'Dogs ran away with the boys' competition, outscoring second-place Overton, 208-155, while the Lady Bulldogs were nosed out by host-Beckville, 113-112, in the girls' race. Garrison also won the JV boys division.

The Center boys and girls varsity track teams posted identical fifth-place finishes last Thursday in the annual Rider Relays held at Roughrider Stadium.

Individual results from the meet were not available, but the Center varsity boys team scored 68 points to place fifth, behind Newton (109), Jasper (96), Hudson (95) and Woodville (82).

Two Shelby County schools will be part of the 8-team field on hand Friday afternoon as Center High School hosts the annual Roughrider Relays.

The field events will get underway at 3:30 p.m. at Roughrider Stadium, with the 3200-meter race starting approximately 15 minutes after that, according to Center head track coach Matt Gregory. The running events will begin immediately following the completion of the field events.

Tenaha junior sprinter Reginald Davis is officially the fastest athlete in Class 1A.

Davis held off a fierce battle by Mart's Anthony Martin Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium to claim top honors in the Boys' 100-meter sprint, winning by 0.01 to claim top honors in his classification. Davis ran the event in 10.73 seconds after qualifying with the top time of 10.96.

Ten area athletes will be in Austin this weekend to represent four schools at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Track & Field Championships, which will be run at Mike A. Myers Stadium, located on the University of Texas campus.

The competition will take place on Friday and Saturday. Four of the athletes will represent Garrison High School, while four are from Timpson and one each from Tenaha and Shelbyville. All will compete in the Class 1A level of competition.

PALESTINE, Tx -- The Timpson Bear 4x200-meter relay, along with Timpson's Lorenzo Young, shone bright as the sun last Tuesday evening as they earned a trip to the State Track & Field Meet in Austin with their top two finishes at the Class 1A Region III Meet here at Wildcat Stadium. The Bears were fourth overall, scoring 39 points.

Led by four first-place finishes and a pair of seconds by its two relay teams, the Timpson Bears claimed second place last week at the Class 1A Region III District 19-20 Area Track & Field Meet held in Hawkins.

Timpson will advance to the Class 1A Region III Track & Field Meet in Palestine on May 2-3 in five individual events, with a pair of relays also participating. Garrison posted two second-place finishes, a third and a fourth at the Area meet and will be moving on as well.

BECKVILLE -- The Boys Division of the District 20-1A Track & Field Meet here at Beckville High School was about as close as they come. Timpson entered the competition not having lost a meet all season long, but Alto handed the Bears their first second-place finish of the season as the Yellowjackets outdistanced THS, 147-118.5, last Thursday.

Overton placed third in the boys' team standings with 84 points, Carlisle was a close fourth with 82 and Garrison ran fifth with 67 points.

CUSHING -- The Timpson Bears captured all three relays and claimed top honors in four other events last Thursday to win the team championship at the Cushing Bearkat Relays by 22 points over Central Heights.

The Bears scored 167 points, with the Blue Devils coming in second with 145 and Cushing placed a distant third with only 65 points. Other team finishers included: Beckville, 4th, 57; Tenaha, 5th, 53; Douglass, 6th, 32; Joaquin, 7th, 29; Martinsville, 8th, 12; and Mt. Enterprise, 9th, 2.

In the past several years Timpson's Cameron Courtney had trained hard to become the best distance runner he can be. On Friday those efforts paid off as the earned two medals at the Texas State Track & Field Championships held at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin.
