CENTER -- In this age of the specialized sports athlete, players such as those who attended Saturday's 19th Annual Preston Football Camp were eager to soak up as much information on the positions they might want to play in the future as they prepare for their respective junior high or high school careers.

Once again the Center Independent School District is joining forces with the City of Center to give the youth of the area something to keep them occupied and giving them a learning experience by offering the S.E.A. Camp during the month of June.

The Joaquin junior high Rams continued their quest for the junior high league title as they remained undefeated in District 19-1A play with a 14-6 victory over the Timpson Bears at Ram Stadium last Thursday night.

The Timpson Middle School volleyball teams split their District 20-1A matches with Leverett's Chapel at home Monday night. The TMS 8th grade recorded a 2-0 victory, while the 7th grade squad fell by a 0-2 count.

Both teams will next travel to Gary on Monday, Oct. 19, for a 5 p.m. start with the Lady Bobcats.

NACOGDOCHES – The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team will be participating in the national “Take a Kid to the Game” (TAKG) on Saturday, Oct. 10, when it hosts McNeese State. The game against the nationally ranked Cowboys is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.

The Timpson Lady Bear junior varsity placed second at the West Rusk Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, while the THS varsity placed second in the Consolation bracket of the tourney.

Both teams were in Overton tonight (Tuesday) for matches with the Lady Mustangs. The Lady Bear varsity is missing three starters, who have the flu, while taking on the front-running Lady Mustangs.

CENTER -- The Center Junior High cross country team continues to show promise on the young season. The Roughriders posted six finishers in the top 21 positions at Saturday's 2009 Rider Invitational Cross Country meet here at Roughrider Stadium Saturday to claim top honors in Junior High Boys Division of the 2009 Rider Invitational Cross Country Meet. The Center girls finished sixth.
