TYLER, Tx -- Football players from across East Texas proudly represented their schools here at TMF Rose Stadium Saturday night and it was the Blue All-Stars which came out on top of the Red All-Stars, 24-0, in the inaugural Fellowship of Christian Athletes' 'Heart of a Champion Bowl' played before an estimated crowd of 4,500 fans.

Tyler Mother Frances Rose Stadium will be the setting for what has been tabbed as the first-ever East Texas all-star football game on Saturday and several area athletes and a cheerleader have been invited to take part in the "Heart of a Champion Bowl".

The Northeast Texas Fellowship of Christian Athletes is sponsoring the game, which is set for Saturday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the game will be $5.

Dwight Preston is planning on bringing in a number of past, present and future professional football athletes next month as he hosts the 20th Annual Preston Football Camp.

The one-day camp is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will be held either at the newly renovated Roughrider Stadium or on the practice field next to it, Preston said this week. The exact location depends on the status of work on the new track at the stadium.

After posting a winless record at the East Texas Baptist University 7-on-7 Tournament last weekend, the Shelbyville Dragons opened play in the Elysian Fields League on Thursday night, recording a 1-2 mark on the first night of action.

The competitiveness in high school football has grown tremendously over the past 10 years. And like National Football League players who now engage in 12-month training to improve individual and team performances, high school athletes are beginning to work out in the same patterns to improve their games.

Dr. Mark Cousins, UIL Director of Policy since February 2009, has been named Director of Athletics for the University Interscholastic League.

Cousins, who has served as interim Director of Athletics since January 2011, will oversee and coordinate UIL athletic activities and reclassification and realignment.

Student-athletes are just that - both students and athletes - and must maintain passing grade point averages to remain eligible to play the sport they wish to participate in. Many athletes go above and beyond the minimum requirements and are recognized for that hard work.

AUSTIN, TX — The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League handed down decisions on the eligibility of student-athletes and issued penalties to coaches for violations of UIL rules on Wednesday.
 
Student-athletes from Lago Vista high School and Allen High School were denied their appeals for varsity eligibility upholding the previous rulings of the district executive committees. After hearing testimony from all interested parties, it was ruled that the student-athletes changed schools for athletic purposes.

The Texas High School Coaches Association is proud to announce the rosters of the THSCA Football and Basketball All-Stars Games presented by Fuddruckers. Fuddruckers, the Texas-born World’s Greatest Hamburger brand, is celebrating its’ second year as sponsor of THSCA’s All-Star events. Fuddruckers’ contribution will support the All-Star Football and Basketball teams which are comprised of Texas high school players from all classifications across the state.
