Timpson - Basketball - Girls

Thursday, June 21, 2012

It's late at night and I'm sitting here at my computer in my office like I have so many times over the past three years. I'm burning the 'midnight oil' once again. It's the end of an era of sorts, but one which I look back on and smile when I think of all the great memories and friendships I've built.

WODEN, Tx -- Defense may win championships, but teams have to score to win - plain and simple.

The Timpson Lady Bears entered the postseason for the first time in seven years, but hit a cold spell for nearly two quarters here in Ford King, Jr. Gymnasium Tuesday night and the result was an 18-0 Cushing run as the Galkats eliminated the Lady Bears from the playoffs, 36-21, in a Class 1A D-I bi-district matchup.

SHELBYVILLE, Tx -- It took an extra game to get there, but for the first time in seven years, the Timpson Lady Bears are headed to the basketball playoffs. They got into the postseason by knocking off arch-rival Garrison, 41-34, in a District 22-1A D-I play-in game here at Dragon Gymnasium Saturday evening.

Timpson improves to 10-14 overall, 6-5 in district. They finish the regular season in third place in the league. The Lady Bulldogs drop to 8-15 overall, 5-6 in district play.

When the Tenaha Lady Tigers get to the stretch run, they can almost 'smell' the playoffs. For the fifth consecutive season the Lady Tigers have gotten on a roll in league play and the end result Tuesday night was the same as the previous four - district champs.

Laura Holmes and her Tenaha squad wrapped up the outright District 22-1A D-I championship Tuesday night, winning for the ninth time in its last 10 games with a 50-29 win over the Shelbyville Lady Dragons in the Tenaha Special Events Center.

GARY, Tx -- The Timpson Lady Bears continue to play like a team on a mission. They seem determined to secure a playoff spot for their community and their school. In their regular season finale Tuesday night on the road in Gary, they faced a very underrated Lady Bobcat squad who just wouldn't quit.

TIMPSON, Tx -- Girls basketball teams in District 22-1A D-I that are in search of a win had better hope they don't have a game scheduled in Timpson's John Herbert Eakin Gymnasium. The Lady Bears are mighty protective of their home court, as the Beckville Ladycats found out here Friday night.

The Tenaha Lady Tigers completed the first half of the District 22-1A race the same way they did a year ago, posted a spotless record and meeting each challenge put before them. Despite the search for a new point guard to replace 2010-11 league standout Okievia Bratchett, THS knocked off Timpson, 53-30, and Shelbyville, 47-41, in overtime last week to improved its league mark to 5-0.
