Timpson first-year head volleyball coach Tori Neugebauer is continuing to see progress on her team as they progress toward league play, which will begin in less than two weeks.

The Lady Bears posted a 2-3 mark at the Groveton Tournament recently, before dropping nondistrict matches to Corrigan-Camden and Tatum on the road.

The Associated Press has announced this week's Texas High School State Poll after Week 0 games have been played and two PineyWoodsSports.com teams are still near the top of the rankings.

The opening weekend of high school football games was huge for the Piney Woods area high school quarterbacks. While the college teams wait another week to get underway, several area schoolboy athletes dominated play in their season openers as six of the eight local teams produced victories.

It wasn't the fast start to the season that Head Coach Kenny Washington was hoping for, but the Timpson Bears did settle down after a slow start Friday night and have some positives out of their 34-12 season-opening setback to West Sabine at Tiger Stadium.

After spotting West Sabine a 34-0 lead early in the third quarter, Timpson's offense came alive, scoring a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns as the Bears actually outgained the Tigers 254-195 in total offense.

The Timpson Bears 'grew' a lot in 2009 and second-year head coach Kenny Washington hopes his team can pay dividents in the upcoming season. How much his team has grown will be revealed when they take to the field - and that begins tonight (Friday).

The Bears and West Sabine Tigers will tangle at Tiger Stadium tonight in Pineland at 7:30 p.m. It will be a formidable test for the Bears.
