MSOC: 'Riders claim scrimmage win over Tigers

The Tenaha Tigers surprised the Center with an early goal, but when the 'Riders got on track they began to gain and keep the momentum Friday night as they built a 4-1 lead at the half as they went on to a 7-2 win over the Tigers in scrimmage action at Roughrider Stadium.

The squads played a shorted game, battling for a pair of 30-minute halves. Jose Campos scored on a long ball that appeared to catch the Center defense off-guard just four minutes to put the visiting Tigers on top, 1-0.

The Tenaha boys and girls soccer teams were looking to put the finishing touches on preseason workouts Tuesday night as they produced two strong performances in scrimmage action at Hudson. The Tigers recorded a 2-1 victory, while the Lady Tigers dropped a 4-1 decision, but were much improved over last year.

The Tenaha Tiger soccer team outscored its opponents 9-7 in three matches last week to post a 2-1 record and move back to .500 (5-5) on the year with wins over Tatum and Liberty Eylau before falling in a one-goal decision to Class 4A powerhouse Texas High.

The Tenaha boys' soccer team continues to show improvement and promise as the season goes on. The Tigers used balanced scoring last Monday night when they blasted Spring Hill, 4-2, at Tiger Stadium in Tenaha.

The Tenaha Tigers put on an offensive show last Tuesday night as they scored three first-half goals en route to an impressive 6-3 soccer victory over Class 3A Liberty Eylau on a cold night in Liberty.

Tenaha posted 22 shots on goal for the night as the Tigers wasted little time opening up a lead. Jose Campos posted a pair of goals near the midpoint of the first half when he slammed shots past the Leopards' goalie at 22:54 and 21:23.

The Tenaha Tiger soccer team is off to a promising start to the 2011 season as it began the year with a 5-3 win over Hudson and then dropping a pair of one-goal decisions in the Eustace Tournament.

The only one-sided setback came in the Tigers' final game at the tourney, when they dropped a 4-0 setback to Sunny Vale. THS now sits at 1-3 on the season heading into action this week.

The Tenaha Tiger soccer team posted a strong second half Friday night, scoring three goals, in a 6-4 scrimmage setback to the first-year Carthage soccer program.

Jose Campos had the strong foot for the Tigers, scoring all four goals in the match as the team prepares to kick off the 2011 season Tuesday night in Hudson. There will be a girls match at 5 p.m., with the varsity boys getting underway at approximately 7 p.m. The Tigers posted a 2-8 mark a year ago, while the Lady Tigers were 0-10.

County athletic events called off

With the inclement weather arriving in Shelby County this afternoon and tonight, all athletic events in the county have been either postponed or cancelled, according to various school officials.

Tonight's District 35-4A soccer matches between Center's boys and girls’ teams against Hudson have been postponed until Wednesday.

Tiger kickers record second straight win, 3-0

The Tenaha Tiger soccer team is continuing to make strides during its second season in existence. The Tigers captured their second straight victory for the first time in the history of the sport at THS on Monday night when the Tigers went to Longview and captured a 3-0 blanking of Spring Hill.

It was also the first-ever shut out for the Tigers, who improved their season record to 2-8 with two games left in the season.

From basketball warm-ups and playoffs to softball and baseball scrimmages to powerlifting, it will be a busy week ahead for Shelby County schools and area colleges.

This past weekend featured some exciting girls hoop action at the Tenaha Special Events Center when THS hosted the Tyler Chapter of Officials Girls Playoff Preview with four exciting games. Some of the best girls' talent in East Texas was played in the eight-team event.
