It's late at night and I'm sitting here at my computer in my office like I have so many times over the past three years. I'm burning the 'midnight oil' once again. It's the end of an era of sorts, but one which I look back on and smile when I think of all the great memories and friendships I've built.

With the recent success of Carthage golf teams, including the CHS Lady Bulldogs participating in the State golf tournament in Austin the past four years, a new kind of clinic is being brought to Carthage.

A Christian Junior Golf Clinic will be held at the Carthage Country Club on June 7-8 for students ages 7-9 and June 21-22 for ages 10 through 12.

CENTER, Tx -- With two past champions among the field of 67 golfers at this year's pro-am golf tournament here at the Center Country Club this past weekend, the 53rd Annual East Texas Open turned into a classic.

But with the tough field battling the heat and each other late into the final day, and temperatures and scores on the rise, Brian Rowell was able to birdie three of the last four holes to win the Open, topping Zack Reeves by one stroke, as Rowell shot a three-round score of 8-under-par 208.

Golfers from throughout the East Texas area and beyond will converge on the Center Country Club on Saturday, June 11, to help raise money for a worthy cause as the 19th Annual Darren Wilson Golf Classic takes place in Shelby County.

According to Lola Wilson, who is the mother of the late Darren Wilson, the annual tournament has raised over $100,000 in the past 18 years, which has gone to the Darren Wilson Scholarship Fund and benefits area high school students to further their college educations.

The Panola College Foundation will host a golf tournament on Saturday, April 30, at the Center Country Club Golf Course to raise money for its endowment.

“This will be a wonderful event and a great opportunity for our communities to show their support for Panola College students,” said Carol Vincent, Foundation Board Chair. “The Foundation supports the mission of the College, and over the years has provided much needed funding for scholarships and equipment.

The University Interscholastic League Legislative Council will convene October 17-18 at the Hilton Downtown in Austin to review UIL rules and vote on proposed rule changes.
 
The UIL Legislative Council meets annually to hear testimony from interested parties and consider changes in UIL policy. Some proposals that will highlight the agenda at this year’s meeting include:

CENTER -- Not only was the temperature hot, but the competition was as well as 72 East Texas golfers competed for pride and to raise money Saturday at the 18th Annual Darren Wilson Golf Classic held here at the Center Country Club.

It is time for the annual Lisa Crawford Alumni golf Tournament, which is an annual event which coincides with the Tenaha Homecoming each year.
