It's late at night and I'm sitting here at my computer in my office like I have so many times over the past three years. I'm burning the 'midnight oil' once again. It's the end of an era of sorts, but one which I look back on and smile when I think of all the great memories and friendships I've built.

CENTRAL HEIGHTS, Tx -- The Slocum Lady Mustangs are a squad that when it comes to defense, if an opponent isn't playing at the top of its game, they pay - big time. The Tenaha Tigers fought to within six points at the half, but then suffered through a five-point third quarter and then the 'bottom fell out' defensively in the fourth quarter as Slocum captured this Class 1A D-I Region III Area matchup here in Russell Gymnasium, 55-37, Friday night.

When the Tenaha Lady Tigers get to the stretch run, they can almost 'smell' the playoffs. For the fifth consecutive season the Lady Tigers have gotten on a roll in league play and the end result Tuesday night was the same as the previous four - district champs.

Laura Holmes and her Tenaha squad wrapped up the outright District 22-1A D-I championship Tuesday night, winning for the ninth time in its last 10 games with a 50-29 win over the Shelbyville Lady Dragons in the Tenaha Special Events Center.

Just three days after a disappointing loss on the Beckville home that forced Tenaha back into a first-place tie with the Ladycats, Tenaha once again finds itself alone in first place in the District 22-1A D-I standings after Friday's games.

The Lady Tigers (14-12) took care of their business with a convincing 67-29 win in Bobcat Gymnasium over Gary (3-12). Timpson (8-11) then gave Tenaha a little help by upsetting Beckville, 42-40, on a shot in the lane by Tammi Harris in the final seconds in Timpson.

BECKVILLE, Tx -- Ever since they lost a lead and allowed Tenaha to come from behind to defeat them in their first meeting of the District 22-1A D-I powerhouses this season, the Beckville Ladycats had been pointing to Tuesday's rematch of the league's heavyweights here in Bearcat Gymnasium. This time Beckville found the winning formula to knock off the defending league champs as they led from the outset and secured a 47-36 win.

The Tenaha Lady Tigers completed the first half of the District 22-1A race the same way they did a year ago, posted a spotless record and meeting each challenge put before them. Despite the search for a new point guard to replace 2010-11 league standout Okievia Bratchett, THS knocked off Timpson, 53-30, and Shelbyville, 47-41, in overtime last week to improved its league mark to 5-0.

The loss was the first in district play for Garrison (5-10), which fell to 2-1 in 22-1A action. The Lady Bulldogs are now tied with Beckville (10-12) for second place, one game behind Tenaha (11-11, 3-0 district).
