BECKVILLE, Tx -- Even without all-state senior guard Reginald Davis, the Tenaha Tigers look like a team of destiny once again in 2012. After last year's squad made up of all underclassmen advanced to the Class 1A D-II state championship game, this year's team could be the one to claim the second state title for the school in 2011-12.

CENTER,Tx -- It isn't often that a Class 1A program take on a 3A opponent in any sport, so when it happens, it draws a lot of interest. Add the fact that the two schools sit ten miles apart in the same county and they both have large basketball fan bases and then a packed house is expected.

The Tenaha Tigers haven't played much this season because the schools' football season was extended to Dec. 15. But they must think that the Laneville Yellow Jackets have their 'number' nevertheless.

No.2-ranked (1A D-II) Laneville had to overcome a first-quarter deficit, but came back strong to hand the No.2-ranked (1A D-I) Tigers their second two-point setback of the season, 66-64, last Tuesday in the TISD Special Events Center.

TENAHA, Tx -- Coming off an emotional foul-plagued setback to arch-rival Laneville on Tuesday night, the No.2-ranked Tenaha Tigers were looking for a spark against two-time Tenaha Holiday Hoops tournament champion Kountze. What THS head coach Todd Bodden received was a gutsy performance by his squad, which took an early lead and then held off a late charge by the Lions, 75-71, here in the Special Events Center.
