Tenaha - Band

Thursday, June 17, 2010

In a bittersweet ceremony next Thursday, June 24, the Tiger Family is invited to join us at the TISD Cafeteria for a 2 p.m. ceremony to celebrate the service and excellence of the contributions of four departing employees.

Refreshments will be available and all stakeholders in the Maroon Army are invited to attend. We are sad to see these superstars depart, but we know they are each taking opportunities to further themselves because of their successes here at TISD.

The Roarin’ Band from Tiger Land earned the coveted UIL Sweepstakes Award on Wednesday of this week. This was achieved by earning first division ratings in Concert and Sightreading, along with a first division in marching (which was earned in October).

The Tiger Band has been a sweepstakes band during three of the last four years.

TENAHA -- The Tenaha 'Roarin' Band from Tiger Land' was recognized during Monday night's monthly board of trustee meeting as the directors of the band were honored for their band's accomplishments this fall during competition and a fourth-place finish at the Class 1A State Marching Band Contest held Nov. 3 in the San Antonio Alamodome.

The members of the Tenaha Tiger Marching Band knew they had a long road ahead of them to make it to State competition this year. But the fourth-place finish at the State Finals in Class 1A on Tuesday showed the perseverance of the squad.

Just as they did in 2007 (the last time that Class A competed in the state marching contest), directors Rhonda Cates and Eric Sanford have once again led the Tenaha Tiger Band to San Antonio to compete for the State Marching Title. They will be joined by the cross-county band from Timpson High School.

Carlisle finished as the top seed at the Area competition, with Tenaha coming in second and Timpson third.

NACOGDOCHES -- There's one thing for sure, Shelby County high school bands know their stuff; their performances Saturday proved it.

All five county high schools were well represented Saturday at the University Interscholastic League Region XXI Marching Contest here at Stephen F. Austin's Homer Bryce Stadium, and they were among the best at the competition as they were among the 40 which competed in Class 1A-5A.
