NACOGDOCHES — Stephen F. Austin basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced Wednesday the addition of Zac Downing to the Lumberjacks’ 2010-11 roster. Downing is a junior college transfer from Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz.
 
Downing is a 6-5, 205-pound small forward who will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at Stephen F. Austin.

FRISCO, Texas – Despite the Southland Conference baseball race yet to be decided, the Stephen F. Austin Athletics Department has already accumulated enough points to clinch the 2010 Southland Conference Commissioner’s Cup title, awarded annually to the top overall athletics program in the SLC.

The 2010 Danny Kaspar Basketball Camps will be held June 20-24 and August 9-13. The camps are open to boys entering grades 2-12 and will be held on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

NACOGDOCHES — Stephen F. Austin head basketball coach Danny Kaspar announced Thursday the addition of three student-athletes to the Lumberjacks’ 2010-11 roster. Collegiate transfers Dion Prewster and Brandon Cutler, along with prep recruit Desmond Haymon, signed to continue their educations and playing careers at SFA.

KATY, Texas (AP) - Gilberto Clavell scored 21 points to lead Sam Houston State to an easy 64-48 win over Stephen F. Austin for the State Farm Southland Conference Tournament championship Saturday.

The win gives top-seeded Sam Houston State (25-7) its second NCAA tournament berth and the first since 2003.

KATY, Texas (AP) - Walt Harris scored a team-high 15 points and sank three free throws in the final 33 seconds Thursday to lead Stephen F. Austin to a 60-53 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the semifinals of the State Farm Southland Conference Basketball Tournament. The win moves the Lumberjacks into the tournament championship game for the second straight season.

KATY, Texas - Stephen F. Austin got a big first-half performance from Orren Tims, and Eddie Williams provided the encore after intermission, as the Lumberjacks rolled to a 77-54 win over UT Arlington Wednesday in the opening round of the State Farm Southland Conference Tournament at the Merrell Center. The 23-point margin of victory is the largest ever for a Lumberjack team in a Southland Tournament game at a neutral site.

FRISCO, Texas — Southland Conference officials announced the league’s postseason all-conference awards Tuesday, and three Lumberjacks were among the honorees. Stephen F. Austin junior Eddie Williams was named to the second team, senior Walt Harris took third-team honors, and redshirt sophomore Jereal Scott earned honorable mention.
 
This marks the third straight year for SFA to land multiple selections on one of the top three teams and the third time in as many seasons for the ’Jacks to put at least one player on the second team.

NACOGDOCHES – Jereal Scott scored 21 points for SFA in the regular season finale, but in the end it was a jumper by UTSA’s Terry Fields with just under a minute remaining in the game that gave the Roadrunners the edge and eventually the game as UTSA took a 65-63 win at William R. Johnson Coliseum.

The ‘Jacks had a chance to tie or win it on the final possession, but a long three-point try by Walt Harris just missed off the front of the rim.

CONWAY , Ark. – Walt Harris broke a string of six straight missed free throws by Stephen F. Austin to knock down two foul shots with four seconds to play, helping the Lumberjacks hold off a late Central Arkansas charge to take a 54-49 win. The victory secured the Southland Conference East Division championship – SFA’s third straight division title – and the No. 2 overall seed in next week’s Southland Conference Tournament.
