Timpson distance runner Cameron Courtney will be headed back to the High School State Track & Field Championships after claiming top honors in both the 800-meters and 1600-meters at the Class 1A Track & Field Meet held at Palestine High School on Tuesday.

Courtney was the lone Shelby County male qualifier for the State meet.

Shelby County will be well represented next week when athletes from each of the five county high schools participate in their respective Regional Track & Field Championships on Monday and Tuesday.

All Shelby County schools were represented on Thursday at the Regional Qualifiers' Meet held at Hornet Stadium in Hemphill. With the exception of the Center Lady Riders and the Timpson Lady Bears, all regional bound teams were represented at the meet.

Nine members of the Shelbyville Dragon and Lady Dragon track teams qualified for the Class 2A Region III Track & Field in Whitehouse on May 3-4 as they will advance in four girls' and five boys' events after a strong performance at the District 22-2A Track & Field Meet in Newton last week.

Athletes who finished in the top three in each event will advance to the Region III Meet.

CENTER -- Shelby County track teams from Center, Timpson and Shelbyville were among a tough field of competitors as 13 schools converged here at Roughrider Stadium Thursday afternoon for the 2010 Center Rider Relays. Atlanta gained varsity boys supremacy, outdistancing its nearest competitor by a whopping 93 points, while the Palestine varsity girls outscored second-place Atlanta 164-129 to win its division. Atlanta also won the junior varsity boys' division.

Shelbyville Lady Dragon Tamera McKinney ran to a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash and teammate Amanda Sellman posted a second-place posting in the high jump at the Kevin "Fly" Hill Relays held at T.K. Gorman High School in Tyler last Thursday.

McKinney was joined by teammate Shenequa Lathan as top three finishers in the 100-meters. Lathan ran third in the event.
