HUDSON, Tx -- The Shelbyville Lady Dragons have a motto this season: "Be Big." They proved to be huge Friday night - with their sticks.

Fielding a team that wasn't exactly accustomed to the postseason drama, the Lady Dragons erupted with sixth runs in each of the first two innings to build a 'big' lead and then held off the Zavalla Lady Eagles, 13-11, in a Class 1A Bi-District playoff game played here at Lady Hornet Field.

The playoffs are often called the 'second season.' For teams struggling at the end of their regular season campaign, it's a chance to redemption. For squads on a roll, they hope to continue their hot streak going into the postseason.

Four area high school team are hoping to extend their seasons this week when they begin playoff action on Friday.

TIMPSON -- Shelbyville lead-off hitter Haleigh Cooper has been doing exactly that - leading - by example and has been a role to follow at the plate down the stretch as the Lady Dragons inched closer to a playoff spot. Needing a victory to claim the third playoff spot in District 21-1A on Tuesday, Cooper went 4-for-4 at the dish with a double, a RBI and four runs scored to lead the hot-hitting Lady Dragons to a convincing 17-2 win over Timpson here at Lady Bear Field.

Catching Shelbyville after the Lady Dragons lost an emotional 5-4 setback from league co-front-runner Garrison, the surging Lady Owls took advantage of a flat SHS ballclub Friday night and recorded a 15-8 win at Lady Owl Field.
