High School baseball and softball teams are making their moves toward a possible berth in the State tournaments coming up later this month. Several area schools are in action in or around the Shelby County area, so there is plenty of action for those who love the games played on the diamond.

Three Shelby County High Schools have announced their upcoming 2010 Athletic Banquets, with Center and Shelbyville hosting their events on the same night.

The Center High School All-Sports Banquet is scheduled for Thursday, May 6. The event will take place at 6 p.m. in the CHS Cafetorium.

Coaches from all sports will be presenting awards to their top student athletes. There will also be a fajita dinner.

SHELBYVILLE -- A gutsy performance by a young Shelbyville softball squad came up just short of turning a dismal season into a surprising playoff run here at Lady Dragon Field Tuesday afternoon as SHS did not commit an error in its season finale, coming up one hit short of forcing a three-way tie for second place in the District 22-2A standings in the final game of the regular season.

With only two games remaining in the regular season, the Shelbyville Lady Dragons are still clinging to the hope of claiming one of the three playoff spots in District 22-2A. The latest reason for the hope to secure a postseason berth is a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Newton in nine innings Tuesday afternoon at Lady Dragon Field.
