The Shelbyville 8th grade 'A' football team team won the District 10-1A D-I championship on Thursday night with a 24-6 win over Timpson.

The Dragons finished the 2011 season with an undefeated record.

The Shelby County Youth Football League has announced its opening round playoff games for Saturday and it features some great matchups.

The games will be played at Roughrider Stadium in Center, beginning at 9 a.m. with the Flag Football and 8-9 Year Old Tackle divisions getting underway. Contests will continue throughout the day, with the last game in the 10-12 Year Old Division getting started at 1:30 p.m.

Center High School will be showing off its newly installed artificial turf surface at Roughrider Stadium this summer when it hosts a youth football camp next week.

According to CISD Athletic Director Kevin Goodwin, the Center Roughrider Football Camp is set for next Wednesday and Thursday, July 20-21, at the newly renovated stadium. The camp will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. both days.

Dwight Preston is planning on bringing in a number of past, present and future professional football athletes next month as he hosts the 20th Annual Preston Football Camp.

The one-day camp is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will be held either at the newly renovated Roughrider Stadium or on the practice field next to it, Preston said this week. The exact location depends on the status of work on the new track at the stadium.

The Shelbyville junior high Dragon football team dropped a 30-6 decision to San Augustine last Thursday night in San Augustine.

The Dragons trailed 18-6 at intermission. Shelbyville's lone touchdown came on a pass from Trevor Henkle to Jesse Rose just before intermission.

Shelbyville is scheduled to host Newton this Thursday at Dragon Stadium at 4:30 p.m.

The Shelbyville 8th grade football team has had a rough last couple of weeks, losing by 28-0 scores the past two weeks against both Kirbyville and Woodville.

In the setback to Kirbyville, Sam Choice was credited with some outstanding running, according to the Dragon coach. The coach stated he ran the ball extremely well and followed that up with outstanding defensive play, making numerous tackles.

The Shelbyville junior high scored on a 4th-and-goal situation from the Trinity three-yard line, but the try for the two-point conversion failed, leaving visiting Trinity with a hard-fought 8-6 win over the Dragons Thursday evening at Dragon Stadium.

Dee Osby scored the lone touchdown for Shelbyville on the fourth-down play. But a mishandled snap resulted in the conversion failing and the Dragons coming up just short.

The Shelbyville 7th grade Dragons received three touchdown passes from Dee Osby last Thursday night to blank Huntington, 22-0, in middle school football action.

The Shelbyville junior high and junior varsity squads will host Trinity Thursday afternoon at Dragon Stadium, beginning at 4:30 p.m. There is only one junior high game scheduled because of a lack of players at Trinity.
