Led by Ali Baty and Catashia Walker, the Shelbyville Lady Dragon cross country team posted four medalists Wednesday as they took the District 25-1A championship at Zavalla and once again earned a spot at the Class 1A Region IV Meet in San Antonio next week.

The Shelbyville cross country team competed in the Class 1A-3A varsity division of the Grapeland Invitational on Wednesday and placed third overall, according to the SHS coach.

Ali Baty led the Lady Dragon runners, placing fourth overall, with a time of 13:00, while Catashia Walker ran a 13:09 and Adaisha Cartwright posted a time of 13:26. Each of these Shelbyville runners received a medal.

The Shelbyville Lady Dragon cross country team continues to get stronger as the team advances through the season and nears the league meet. The Lady Dragons won the Zavalla Invitational Meet last Saturday, placing three runners in the top 10 finishers of the varsity division.

Ali Baty took the third overall place among all runners, posting a time of 12:37. Catashia Walker ran seventh with a time of 12:56 and Adaisha Cartwright was 10th with a time of 13:12.

The Shelbyville junior varsity cross country team have recorded a pair of strong performances recently while competing in area meets. SHS placed second at the Brooks Lumberjack Invitational and first in the Rider Invitational last weekend.

Ali Baty claimed top honors in the individual competition at the Brooks Invitational, posting a time of 13:50. Lady Dragon teammate Catashia Walker came in fourth in the event with a time of 14:10.

Shelbyville's junior varsity girls took the top three spots Saturday as the Lady Dragons cruised to the title of the Rider Invitational cross country meet held here at Center High School. Garrison won the varsity girls' division, with Carthage taking second and Carthage claimed top honors in the junior high girls' division.

CENTER, Tx -- Led by the personal-best times set by Center's Bryan Ruiz and Jose Tello, the Center Roughrider boys cross country team claimed top honors Saturday at the Rider Invitational held here at Center High School.

"It was a good meet with some great efforts by our kids," said Center cross counry coach Donna Shannon. "Now we'll take this coming weekend off and get a good feel for the district course when we attend the Hudson meet (on Oct. 8)."

A large group of area girls participated in the 2011 Brooks Invitational cross country meet held at Pecan Park in Nacogdoches Saturday. Garrison ran 15th overall in the varsity girls' division, while the Shelbyville Lady Dragon junior varsity posted a second place finish. The Carthage JV came in fourth.

The Shelbyville varsity girls cross country team posted a strong showing at the Class 1A Region IV competition in San Antonio recently as a pair of Lady Dragon runners posted their best times of the year, according to Coach Stephany Carter.

As a team, Shelbyville ran 17th out of 23 teams at the Region IV meet, which was held at University of Texas-San Antonio.

As fall athletes lead their teams nearer to the postseason, efforts become more and more extraordinary. The 'cream' seems to rise to the top as all-out efforts are given to lead teams to the 'next level' and to continue the season as teams don't want them to end.

The Shelbyville Lady Dragon cross country team has continued to build its performances and momentum throughout the season and began reaching its peak on Wednesday when SHS went to Colmesneil and qualified for the Region IV Cross Country Meet with a third-place finish at the District 25-1A Meet.

According to Shelbyville Head Coach Stephany Carter, the Region IV Meet is scheduled for Nov. 6 in San Antonio.
