The Center Youth Baseball Association has announced signup dates and tryouts for the 2012 spring and summer season.

Parents will have three opportunities in the upcoming weeks to get their children signed up at the Center Middle School Cafeteria. The first signup will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The second date is set for Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The final date is Friday, Feb. 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Shelbyville Youth baseball and softball sign-ups are quickly approaching. The sign-ups will be held at the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville on February 11, 13, and 18.

Monday sign-ups will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Saturday sign-ups will be from 9 a.m. until 12-noon.

The cost for is $60 for the first child, $55 for the second and $50 for each additional child. Please bring a copy of the child's birth certificate to the sign-ups.

The Center Police Department is sponsoring a Co-ed benefit softball tournament to raise funds for the newly developed Center Crime Stoppers unit, according to CPD Detective Ricky King.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Oct.8, and will be played at the Nacogdoches Softball Complex. Registration for the tournament is now open and will be available for the first 12 teams through Friday, Sept. 30, King said.

Former Timpson head coach and current Gary High School baseball coach Ryan Cook has announced that he and former Stephen F. Austin softball player Haleigh Willis are offering baseball/softball instruction for those who are interested.

Cook, a former college baseball player at LaTourneau University in Longview and Willis, a California high school all-state standout in addition to her playing days at SFA, are offering lessons at the price of $30 for 45 minutes of work.

CENTER, Tx -- The Shelbyville 12U Major All-Stars couldn't get their bats started early on and it cost the Dragons as Hudson used a five-run third inning to build a lead which it never relinquished as it handed the Dragons an 11-1 setback in five innings in the opening round of the Dixie Majors 12U State Tournament here at Center Noon Lions Park Saturday morning.

Despite suffering from a nagging injury to this throwing elbow, Shelbyville's Brad Estes completed his high school career by leading the Dragons to the District 21-1A championship and a berth into the third round of the Class 1A State playoffs.

Estes was recognized for his outstanding effort recently as he was named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA) First-Team All-State squad after leading the Dragons to an overall mark of 21-9-3.

Three Shelby County teams will be among a field of 11 that will be battling for the title of the best in the state when the Dixie Majors (12U) State Tournament begins this weekend in Center.

The Center All-Stars will be joined by teams from Joaquin and Shelbyville to face the state's best. Other teams include Hudson, Cooper, Huntington, Tri Cities, Commerce, Tyler County National, Idabel, Oklahoma and Diboll.

Jim Goldman has brought solidity to the Carthage High School baseball program, winning the Class 3A title in 2009 and a district winning percentage of .921 since his arrival three years ago.

For the second summer in a row he is offering a pair of camps to help to pass on knowledge and training when he offers skills and pitching camps next month.

CENTER, Tx -- After dropping a double-digit decision to Center in the second round of the Dixie Youth 9-10 YO AAA District 2B Tournament on Saturday, the Shelbyville All-Stars had some 'soul searching' to do. The squad then responded with a pair of huge victories, including some 'payback' to Center before falling in the title game of the tourney on Monday.

Shelbyville posted a 3-2 record in the four-day affair, executing some exciting moments before falling 15-0 in the finale to undefeated Tyler County.
