If early indications are a sign of what's ahead, the Panola College Fillies are headed for a much-improved 2011-12 basketball season. Just six games into the schedule and the squad has already surpassed last season's win total.

CARTHAGE, Tx -- After battling the Houston Blaze even for the first 25 minutes of their contest on Saturday afternoon, the Panola College Ponies ran into a cold spell and the Blaze put a couple of short runs together down the stretch for an 89-78 nonconference win here in Arthur Johnson Gymnasium.

CARTHAGE, Tx -- After coming out slow in the first half and allowing the East Texas Flight club team to hang around for the first 20 minutes, the Panola College Ponies exploded for 53 second-half points Monday night to cruise to their second easy win in as many games, 99-69, here in the Arthur Johnson Gymnasium.

Coming off one of their best performances of the year in a 3-1 win over No.6-ranked Tyler Junior College on Friday, there wasn't any time for celebration for the 15th-ranked Panola College Fillies as they had to turn around on Saturday and battle the top-ranked Blinn College Buccaneers with a trip to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball National Championship tournament at stake.

ATHENS, Tx -- Trinity Valley Community College men's and women's basketball teams are the favorites to have strong seasons in 2011-12 as they were both chosen to pick at the top of their respective leagues by the coaches in NJCAA Region XIV.
The polls were released at the 14th Annual Region XIV Conference Media Tip-off, which was held on the Trinity Valley Community College in Athens recently.

The Fillies will will continue their current four game homestand to start the season when they host the Panola Fillies Classic tonight (Friday) and Saturday.
Panola will be joined by Jacksonville College, Collin County College and Carl Albert College from Poteau, Okla. in the two-day round robin affair.

Each year teams from NCJCAA Region XIV battle for a chance to get to the league's postseason tournament in hopes of having an opportunity, once they arrive, to get on a roll and claim the tourney championship and a place in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Last year the Panola College Fillies were a hot team, but lost in the semifinal round and were ranked as high as No.7 nationally and finished the year with a record of 24-5.
