Panola College’s baseball program has had a long-standing tradition as one of the top junior college baseball programs in the country and has sent many players on to play with four-year universities. This year ten Ponies will be moving on to various four-year institutions to continue their education and baseball careers.

Panola College sophomore leftfielder Stephen Martinez was one of four infielders in Region XIV named to the All-Region team, which was announced last week.

Martinez, a 5-10, 185-lb. player from Vandebilt Catholic High School from Bourg, La. led Panola College in hitting last season, finishing the year with a .351 batting average.

Oditte Odisho, a sophomore point guard for the Panola Fillies basketball program, has committed to NCAA Division I Duquense University in Pittsburgh, PA.

Odisho, a 5-6 player from Ontario, Canada, was named to the NJCAA Region XIV All-Conference squad after leading the team in scoring and returning the Fillies to the Region XIV tournament this past season.

Odisho was also named to the Dean's List for her classroom performance.

Panola College head volleyball coach Nicole Thorn has announced that four student-athletes from her 2011-12 sophomore class will be continuing their education and playing careers at four-year universities this fall.

Samantha Peterson will be attending Texas Southern University in Houston on a full volleyball scholarship.

Athletes interested in becoming a part of the Panola College baseball team will have a chance next month to earn a spot on the NJCAA squad.

Ponies' head coach Todd Shelton has announced that the college will be holding an open tryout on Tuesday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at Jim Reeves Memorial Field at the Carthage City Sports Complex on the loop.

Two members of the Panola College Fillies basketball team signed letter's of intent to play basketball at four-year institutions on Tuesday when Jasmine Beard and Klarke Sims signed with Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins.

Beard is a returning sophomore from Hithcock, Texas and Sims is a sophomore from Humble, Texas.  They both will continue their basketball careers at the NAIA Division I Jarvis College, which participates in the Red River Conference.

CARTHAGE, Tx - Leading sixth-place Bossier Parish by three games in the Region XIV Eastern Zone standings entering this week's play, the Panola College Ponies were hoping to put a little distance between themselves and the Cavaliers on Wednesday. But a cold start resulted in a 3-1 loss to BPCC here at Jim Reeves Memorial Field in Game 1 of the twinbill. Panola then stormed back to blast the Cavs in Game 2, 10-0.

CARTHAGE, Tx - The Panola College girls’ rodeo team is moving up the ladder in the Southern Region. Taylor Gooch, a freshman from Hemphil, joined the team this spring and has only competed in three of the four rodeos this spring semester and has already made her mark in the goat tying. 

In her first rodeo of the spring, hosted by Panola College, she set the mark high with a 6.7 seconds time and won the goat tying in her first collegiate rodeo.

CARTHAGE, Tx - Holding on to a 2.59 ERA in 24.1 innings on the mound in the Eastern Zone of Region XIV play, Panola College sophomore pitcher Jamie McClure was looking to give his team a lift when he stepped on the hill for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against Paris Junior College. McClure kept the Dragons at bay, holding them to one earned run in six innings to lead the Ponies to a 7-3 victory.

Navarro College got off to fast starts in both of its games with Panola College on Wednesday as the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader from the Ponies, 6-4, 8-6, in Corsicana.

The double loss dropped the Ponies to 14-22 on the year, 6-14 in Region XIV action. Panola will try to bounce back at home on Saturday when the Ponies host Paris Junior College in a twinbill at Jim Reeves Memorial Field beginning at 1 p.m.
