It's late at night and I'm sitting here at my computer in my office like I have so many times over the past three years. I'm burning the 'midnight oil' once again. It's the end of an era of sorts, but one which I look back on and smile when I think of all the great memories and friendships I've built.

ELYSIAN FIELDS, Tx - While members of the Beckville Bearcats' football team get to know each other and sharpen their offensive and defense passing skills, new head coach Eric Robinson is utilizing the summer's 7-on-7 program to observe his new team, to learn its strengths and examine the weaknesses.

The 'Cats are participating in the Elysian Fields League on each Thursday in June, joining the Yellowjackets, New Diana, Shelbyville and Waskom, with games beginning at 6 p.m. each week.

DIBOLL, Tx - The phrase 'headed to State' and the Carthage Bulldog football team have often gone hand-in-hand in the past five years. After claiming the state title during 'fall ball' in three of the past four years, the 2012 edition of the Dawgs is already making a name for itself.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes' Heart of a Champion Bowl will be played on Saturday at Longview High School's Lobo Stadium as players from throughout East Texas take part in the second-annual event.

The contest will kickoff at 6:30 p.m.

Approximately 110 East Texas football players will participate in the game, representing 60 schools. The Red All-Stars won last year's game, 24-0.

Carthage defensive lineman Dakota Hart will lead talented players from all over East Texas as they gear up for the 2nd Annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes' 'Heart of a Champion Bowl'.

The all-star football game is scheduled 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, at Lobo Stadium in Longview.

Approximately 110 East Texas football players representing 60 schools will take part in the game. Last year's contest was won the Red All-Stars, 24-0.

After one year as Athletic Director and head football coach at Jasper, former Carthage assistant coach Garrett Morgan abruptly turned in his letter of resignation on Monday, according to a story published in the Jasper Newsboy newspaper.

According to the newspaper's online edition, Morgan tendered his letter of resignation to JISD Superintendent Dr. Jon Whittemore after meeting with his staff and players on Monday morning.

The state of Texas has its first Heisman Trophy winner since Ricky Williams and Texas Football is making sure he gets his due. Baylor’s Robert Griffin III graces the fifth-annual edition’s striking cover, as does his familiarly-posed bronze trophy, and with good reason — behind Griffin, Baylor completed one of its finest seasons in school history.

As expected, Class 1A D-II State champion Tenaha landed the most players on the All-District 12-1A football team which was announced recently. But the Beckville Bearcats and Mount Enterprise Wildcats weren't far behind in the all-league choices by the coaches in the district.

The Tenaha Tigers are getting set for the biggest game in the football program's history since the 1998 season when the squad takes its unbeaten 13-0 mark to Dallas Cowboys Stadium on Thursday to face the Munday Moguls (13-2) for the Class 1A D-II State Championship at 4 p.m.
