The Center Youth Baseball Association has announced signup dates and tryouts for the 2012 spring and summer season.

Parents will have three opportunities in the upcoming weeks to get their children signed up at the Center Middle School Cafeteria. The first signup will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The second date is set for Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The final date is Friday, Feb. 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The Center Police Department is sponsoring a Co-ed benefit softball tournament to raise funds for the newly developed Center Crime Stoppers unit, according to CPD Detective Ricky King.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Oct.8, and will be played at the Nacogdoches Softball Complex. Registration for the tournament is now open and will be available for the first 12 teams through Friday, Sept. 30, King said.

Former Timpson head coach and current Gary High School baseball coach Ryan Cook has announced that he and former Stephen F. Austin softball player Haleigh Willis are offering baseball/softball instruction for those who are interested.

Cook, a former college baseball player at LaTourneau University in Longview and Willis, a California high school all-state standout in addition to her playing days at SFA, are offering lessons at the price of $30 for 45 minutes of work.

Jim Goldman has brought solidity to the Carthage High School baseball program, winning the Class 3A title in 2009 and a district winning percentage of .921 since his arrival three years ago.

For the second summer in a row he is offering a pair of camps to help to pass on knowledge and training when he offers skills and pitching camps next month.

CENTER, Tx -- After dropping a double-digit decision to Center in the second round of the Dixie Youth 9-10 YO AAA District 2B Tournament on Saturday, the Shelbyville All-Stars had some 'soul searching' to do. The squad then responded with a pair of huge victories, including some 'payback' to Center before falling in the title game of the tourney on Monday.

Shelbyville posted a 3-2 record in the four-day affair, executing some exciting moments before falling 15-0 in the finale to undefeated Tyler County.

CENTER, Tx -- The group of Center 13-14 year-old all-stars that took the field in a high-pressure game Tuesday night against East Montgomery County here at Tommy Morrison Field with an unbeaten mark at stake heading into the semifinals is no stranger to 'money' games.

CENTER, Tx -- The Shelbyville Dragon 9-10 year-old all-stars almost let their first-round contest against Pineland get away from them Friday night in the first round of the Dixie Youth 9-10 AAA District 2B Tournament. But some late-inning heroics resulted in an 11-10 victory in the double-elimination tourney.

CENTER, Tx -- The Dixie Boys (13-14) State Tournament is set to get underway Saturday here at Center Noon Lions Park with five games slated on Tommy Morrison Field in the double-elimination tourney.

Action will begin at 10 a.m. with Tri-County taking on Tyler County, followed by Hudson and Marshall tangling at 12:30 p.m. Diboll will match up with East Montgomery County at 3 p.m. and Texarkana and Livingston will tangle at 5:30 p.m.

There was a large amount of parity in the District 21-1A baseball race this year and the voting for the all-league performers was spread throughout the district as well. Shelbyville senior Brad Estes was named the league's Most Valuable Player, while three Alto players, along with Garrison's Dustin Strahan, paced the superlative awards which were voted on and released by the district's coaches.
