The Shelbyville junior high football team scored a pair of touchdowns and Sam Choice intercepted a Mount Enterprise pass just before halftime to help the Dragons to a 12-8 victory over the Wildcats last Thursday night in Mount Enterprise.
The Dragons improved to 1-0 with the victory. Shelbyville will travel to Huntington Thursday night. The junior high will begin the action at 4:30 p.m., with the junior varsity to follow at approximately 7 p.m.
Shelbyville Coach Mike Innerarity said play wasn't as smooth as he hoped, considering the school had to combine 7th and 8th grade squads and still get everyone into the contest. He did state that both the offensive and defensive lines did a better job blocking than they did last week during scrimmage action. He said that the eighth grade tailback/safety did an outstanding job on both sides of the ball as well as recovering a fumble following a kickoff.
Mt. Enterprise (JV) 34, Shelbyville 8 -- The Shelbyville Dragon junior varsity couldn't get past Mount Enterprise. Coach Blake Martin stated that Luis Acuna had an outstanding job on both sides of the football. Acuna had several catches offensively, while intercepting a pass. He also led the Dragons in tackles, credited the coach.
James Bradford also picked off one Wildcat pass as Martin said the Dragons fought hard throughout.
