After leading their team to yet another Class 1A State Playoff berth in 2010, the Joaquin Lady Rams were well represented on the All-District 19-1A softball teams recently as four members were selected to the first team and five more Lady Rams were honored on the second team.

The Timpson Lady Bears were also recognized with two second-team members. THS had five19-1A Honorable Mention selections, while Joaquin posted four.

With nearly three-quarters of the high school's student body participating in athletics, Joaquin challenges for district titles, regional participation and many other postseason accolades each school year. The Joaquin High School Athletics Booster Club honored those student athletes at the 2009-10 JHS Athletics Banquet held recently at the school.

The Class 1A Region III Regional Quarterfinal series between the Mount Enterprise Lady Cats and Beckville was changed Wednesday morning0, according to administrators at Mount Enterprise ISD.

Game 1 of the best 2-out-of-3 series is now scheduled to be played at Beckville's Lady Cat Field beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday. Games 2 & 3 will be played beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday at Douglass.

High School baseball and softball teams are making their moves toward a possible berth in the State tournaments coming up later this month. Several area schools are in action in or around the Shelby County area, so there is plenty of action for those who love the games played on the diamond.

DOUGLASS -- Mount Enterprise junior catcher Kara Chapman slammed a pair of doubles and added a home run, while driving in four runs Friday night as she led the Galcats to a two-game sweep of Joaquin in the best-of-three Class 1A Bi-District playoff here at Lady Indian Field, 17-0, 13-8, ending the season for the 25th-ranked Lady Rams.

It wasn't the way the Joaquin Lady Rams wanted to enter postseason play, but they qualified nevertheless, finishing third in the District 19-1A race Tuesday night after falling to No.13-ranked Waskom, 6-1, at Lady Ram Field.

The setback, Joaquin's third straight after beginning league play 7-1, gives the Lady Rams a 13-12 season mark, while posting a 7-4 district record.

In the second clash of the District 19-1A softball leaders, the No.18-ranked Joaquin Lady Rams couldn't put the stops on No.4-ranked Beckville Friday night, dropping a 13-1 decision at Lady Ram Field.

Despite two lopsided setbacks to the Ladycats in which Joaquin was outscored 23-2, the Lady Rams are still very much in position to grab one of the other two remaining playoff spots in 19-1A. Beckville leads the league race with a 9-0 record, while Joaquin is in second place at 7-2.
