The Ram 8th grade squad didn't fare quite as well as their 7th grade counterparts Thursday night as Joaquin fell behind 20-8 in the first half and their comeback fell short to the Union Grove Lions, 36-22, at Ram Stadium in Joaquin.

The loss ends the season for Rams with a 2-3 District 9-2A D-II record.

The Joaquin 7th grade running tandem of Nate Belrose and Peyton Martinez saved one of their best rushing performance for the final game of the 2011 season as they combined for 175 yards on the ground and all five of the Rams' touchdowns as the team finished the season with a convincing 34-14 victory over Union Grove at Ram Stadium Thursday night.

With the win, Joaquin finished the 2011 season with a District 9-2A D-II mark of 3-2.

Joaquin 7th grade running back Nate Belrose pounded the West Rusk defense for 87 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns Thursday night as he led the Rams to a 22-0 blanking of West Rusk at Raider Stadium.

The victory improved the Rams to 2-2 against District 9-2A competition.

The Joaquin eighth grade didn't fare as well, falling by a 26-14 count as the Rams saw their league record fall back to 2-2.

With time running out and the Joaquin Ram 7th grade and Frankston battling in a scoreless tie, the Rams needed an edge. They received that edge in running back Peyton Martinez.

Trailing 12-8 at the half, the Joaquin 7th grade Rams had one more touchdown in them, but unfortunately so did the Arp Tigers, as a 10-point third-quarter deficit was too much to overcome as the Tigers escaped with an 18-16 victory at Ram Stadium Thursday night.

The Tiger 8th grade also had enough offense to pick up a win as Arp secured a 42-22 win later in the evening.

The lead changed hands four times in the fourth quarter Thursday night, and when the final horn sounded it was the Joaquin 8th grade Rams recording a wild 32-28 victory over Winona at Wildcat Stadium.

In the seventh grade matchup, Winona outscored Joaquin 14-0 in the final two periods to break an 8-8 tie and take a 22-8 victory over the Rams.

The Joaquin junior high teams will be at home next Thursday when they host Arp.

The Joaquin junior high football teams went on the road Thursday night to face the TAPPS teams from Tyler All-Saints. The Ram seventh grade battled the Trojans to within two points, falling 14-12, while the Joaquin 8th grade fell by a 20-0 count.

The Joaquin 7th grade Rams kept their season mark unblemished (2-0) Thursday night as Nate Belrose rushed for 95 yards in a 14-0 victory over San Augustine at Ram Stadium.

The Ram 8th grade had a tougher time of it, falling to the Wolves, 26-16, to drop back to 1-1 on the season. In that game, the Rams' Tanner Williams rushed for 98 yards and a score in the first half before leaving the game with a leg injury.

Joaquin seventh grader Nate Belrose rushed for 99 yards and a score, while Ram eighth grader Nathaniel Retaumar scored twice and picked up 80 yards on the ground as the Ram junior high squads opened their 2011 football seasons with wins over Hemphill at Hornet Stadium Thursday night.

Both Ram squads improved to 1-0 on the year and will host San Augustine next Thursday night. The seventh grade will get underway at 5 p.m. from Ram Stadium.

Center High School will be showing off its newly installed artificial turf surface at Roughrider Stadium this summer when it hosts a youth football camp next week.

According to CISD Athletic Director Kevin Goodwin, the Center Roughrider Football Camp is set for next Wednesday and Thursday, July 20-21, at the newly renovated stadium. The camp will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. both days.
