JOAQUIN -- As rivalries go, the 2010 version of the Tenaha-Joaquin football showdown didn't have the glitter of years past. Both teams still wanted to start the season by taking care of their arch rival, but in the end it was the No.4-ranked (Associated Press) Tigers who captured their 13th game in their last 14 tries with a 34-0 win here at Ram Stadium Saturday night.

Any time Tenaha and Joaquin get together for an athletic event one thing is for sure: it will be a spirited battle. Despite the fact that the two squads are no longer competing in the same district - or classification - they'll take part in an exciting contest when they meet tonight (Friday) at Ram Stadium in Joaquin.

With the 2010 high school football season beginning on Thursday with the Shelbyville Dragons taking part in the Brook Hill Classic, Piney Woods squad will be back into full swing this week as they begin their quest for playoff spots and the dream of capturing a State title.

We'll be previewing our teams this week as we proceed through the week:

There is usually no ideal time for a school to move up in ranks from one classification to the next, but the task ahead is always harder when a squad is forced to replace a large number of starters from the year before.

That might be the worst nightmare this season for the Joaquin Rams, but last year's Class 1A D-I semifinalists are taking it as a challenge when they move into one of the toughest Class 2A D-II districts in the state this fall.
