GOLF: Harris falls in junior golf playoff

The Ark-La-Tex Junior Golf Tour is underway for the summer, with athletes from all across the East Texas area competing.

A Carthage golfer, Miller Harris, participated in the opening tournament at the Longview Country Club on June 4 and was involved in a playoff in the 10-11 Year-old Boys Division.

Connor Nelson of Mount Pleasant took the playoff over Harris, who placed second. Henderson's Caleb Medford came in third. All golfers shot identical scores of 40.

There were four flights of strictly boys, ranging in age from 10-year olds to 18-year olds. There were two flights of girls, with ages ranging from 12 to 18. There is also a co-ed group, from ages 7-9.

In the opening tourney, Ty Mesker of Gladewater won the 16-18 Year-old Boys Division with a score of 69, Reed Fisher of Longview won a playoff in the 14-15 Year-old Boys Division and shot a 71, and Kade W. Keith of Texarkana shot a 75 to win the 12-13 Year Old Boys Division.

Hannah Haltom of Texarkana won the 12-14 Year Old Girls Division with a 45, Allyson Lee of Linden won the 15-18 Year Olds Girls Division with an 87.

In the co-ed competition, Samuel Benson shot a 37 to claim top honors.
