Gary 6-1 post player Connor Coligan has been named to the Class 1A All-State Academic basketball team by the Texas High School Coaches Association, according to information released by his parents.

He has been a integral part of the Gary High School basketball program throughout his four years of high school. He was named the team's Defensive Most Valuable Player and was an All-District 22-1A the past two seasons, earning second-team honors this season.

It may be the spring, but basketball fans can see some high school hoops on Saturday when the Gary ISD hosts the Gary Youth Sports Association Shootout.

Admission is $5 for the day. There will be concessions available at the new Bobcat Gymnasium.

Boys teams from Gary and Carthage will be the main attraction and will be joined by squads from the following high schools: Timpson, Joaquin, Central Heights, Sabine, Carlisle, Sabine and Cushing.

Tenaha senior guard Octavius Griffith led a long list of standout District 22-1A D-I players who were honored for their play on the hardwood this season when he was named the league's Most Valuable Player award by the district's coaches recently.

WHITEHOUSE, Tx - The Gary Bobcats couldn't overcome the physical play and high-octane offense of the No.8-ranked Grapeland Sandies here in Wildcat Arena Friday night as Grapeland's Patrick Walker scored 39 points and almost outscored the entire Bobcat squad in a 79-47 Class 1A D-I Region III Area victory for the Sandies.

CENTRAL HEIGHTS, Tx - 'The curse' is over in Gary.

According to some Gary High School history buffs, it had been over 50 years since a Bobcat boys basketball team had won a playoff game. Time after time when they had reached the playoffs then were bitten - or stung - with a first-round exit from the post season. And when New Summerfield's Austin Gray began raining three-pointers and long two-pointers Tuesday it looked like possibly the agony would continue.

TENAHA, Tx -- The Gary Bobcats took on a large challenge Saturday afternoon when they battled Class 3A Gladewater in the Third Annual East Texas Playoff Preview held at Tenaha's Special Events Center. The 'Cats gave the Bears all they could handle for three quarters before Gladewater pulled away in the fourth period for a 58-37 victory.

The two top 'dogs' in the District 22-1A D-I boys basketball race squared off in the regular season finale Tuesday night and the No.4-ranked Tenaha Tigers secured a convincing 66-37 win over second-place Gary in the Tenaha Special Events Center to secure the team's tenth consecutive victory.

GARY, Tx -- Fans of the Gary Bobcats had plenty of reason to celebrate here in Bobcat Gymnasium Tuesday night. First the 'Cats knocked off District 22-1A D-I rival Timpson, 36-31, in a game that wasn't decided until the final 30 seconds. Then the Bobcat cheerleaders very loudly announced that the 'Cats had clinched a playoff berth with the victory, sending the crowd into another eruption.

GARY, Tx -- The Tenaha Tigers and Gary Bobcats came into Friday night's district contest here in Bobcat Gymnasium with identical 4-0 league records. The Tigers left no doubt, however, about who is the 'top dog' in District 22-1A Division I, using their suffocating man-to-man defense to hold the 'Cats to only seven points over the second and third periods, while scoring 35 of their own en route to 66-45 win.
