Panola College head baseball coach Todd Shelton will be hosting a baseball camp for youths ages 5-12 early next month.

Shelton said the camp will take place on June 4-6 from 9 a.m. until 12-noon at the Jim Reeves Memorial Field at the Carthage Baseball Complex. The cost of the three-day camp is $75 per individual.

Coaches will concentrate on introduction on basic skills and improvement and development of skills as well.

Area baseball players who want the opportunity to try out for a major league baseball team can try out for the Tampa Bay Rays in Hallsville next month.

Rays management is hosting the open camp on Tuesday, June 12, at Hallsville High School in the attempt to find local talent that could be an asset to the organization. The camp will be supervised by Rays scout Pat Murphy and under the direction of scout Scott Mitchell.

The Gary Bobcats piled up nine hits last Friday as they snapped a three-game losing skid with a convincing 12-2 win over Martinsville at Bobcat Field.

The 'Cats then dropped a 12-1 setback to Garrison and enter play next week with a 7-10 season mark, 3-7 in District 21-1A play. Friday night's home game against Alto has been rescheduled for April 28.

There isn't much margin for error these days if the Shelbyville Dragons want to overtake Cushing in the battle for the third and final playoff spot from District 21-1A. The Dragons made sure on Tuesday night they kept pace with Cushing as Dillon Brown slammed a home run and a double, while Blane picked up the victory on the hill in a 12-0 blanking of Gary in five innings at Dragon Field.

GARY, Tx - It was a tough outing on the diamond for the Gary Bobcats on Friday afternoon as a solo home run by Luke Thornton was all the fans had to cheer about as the team went down to its fifth loss in six games in a 16-1 setback to Cushing in a District 21-1A contest here at Bobcat Field.

The Garrison Bulldogs continue to stay within range to capture the District 21-1A baseball race with a pair of impressive wins in the past week. The 'Dogs rolled past Martinsville, 21-2, last Friday night and then bolted past Gary, 19-0, on Tuesday.
