Ten area athletes will be in Austin this weekend to represent four schools at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Track & Field Championships, which will be run at Mike A. Myers Stadium, located on the University of Texas campus.

The competition will take place on Friday and Saturday. Four of the athletes will represent Garrison High School, while four are from Timpson and one each from Tenaha and Shelbyville. All will compete in the Class 1A level of competition.

PALESTINE, Tx -- The Timpson Bear 4x200-meter relay, along with Timpson's Lorenzo Young, shone bright as the sun last Tuesday evening as they earned a trip to the State Track & Field Meet in Austin with their top two finishes at the Class 1A Region III Meet here at Wildcat Stadium. The Bears were fourth overall, scoring 39 points.

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs claimed the Class 1A Region III District 19-20 Area Track Meet last week in Hawkins by setting seven new personal records and advancing athletes to the Region III Track Meet in 14 events as GHS ran away with the competition.

Timpson also earned berths to the Class 1A Region III Track & Field Meet in Palestine on May 2-3 in three events, while Mount Enterprise will be sending a relay team and an individual.

BECKVILLE -- The Garrison Lady Bulldogs recorded seven first-place finishes and qualified athletes for the Area Meet this week in 18 events at the District 20-1A Track & Field Meet Wednesday and Thursday in Beckville.

Garrison took top team honors with 157 points, easily outdistancing second-place Alto, which scored 101 points. Beckville was a close third with 99 points, Martins Mill placed fourth with 68 points and Cushing posted 50 points for fifth place.

With the District 20-1A Meet coming up this week in Beckville, the Garrison Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs used a final tune-up at the Troup Track Meet last Thursday to claim top honors in 10 events and to set personal bests in seven to shore up their skills.
