Two area football teams will be continuing their quests for respective Class 1A state championships on Friday, but Tenaha and Garrison will have to defeat a team they've already defeated this season to reach the state semifinals.
Tenaha Tigers vs. Mt. Enterprise 'Cats
The Tenaha Tigers will be putting their spotless 11-0 record on the line when they take on Mount Enterprise (11-1) for the Class 1A D-II Region III championship at Carthage's Bulldog Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
The contest will be broadcast on the radio, with KGAS Radio providing the play-by-play on 104.3-FM. There will also be an INTERNET BROADCAST of the game on the www.kgasradio.com website.
Tickets for the contest will be available at the gate at the price of $6. No passes will be accepted other than THSCA and TASO, according to Tenaha district officials.
Mount Enterprise has been designated as the 'home' team, while Tenaha is the 'visitor'.
Both Tenaha and Mount Enterprise are members of District 12-1A D-II. The Tigers were the league champions, while the Wildcats placed second. Mount Enterprise's only loss this season was to Tenaha, by a 47-0 count.
The winner of the Tenaha-Mount Enterprise game will take on the survivor of Burton (11-2) and Falls City (10-2), who are playing Friday night 7:30 p.m. at Buda High School for the Region IV title.
Other regional finals include Springlake (7-5) taking on Wellington (12-0) at 6 p.m. Friday at Bivins Stadium, Amarillo in Region I, and Munday (11-2) battling Windthorst (11-1) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls for the Region II championship.
Garrison Bulldogs vs. Lovelady Lions
The Garrison Bulldogs (11-1) will be out to clinch a return trip to the state semifinal on Friday when they take on the Lovelady Lions (11-1) for the Class 1A D-I Region III championship at Lufkin's Abe Martin Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
The game will be broadcast on the radio, with KTBQ providing the play-by-play on Q107.7-FM. The station will also provide an INTERNET BROADCAST of the game on the www.Q1077.com website.
All tickets for the game will be sold at the gate for $6. Only THSCA and District 10 & 11 passes will be accepted.
Garrison is the designated 'home' team, while Lovelady will be the 'visitor'.
The Bulldogs are the champions of District 10-1A, with the team's only loss this year coming at the hands of Tenaha, 21-20. Lovelady won District 11-1A. The Lions' only loss this season came at the hands of Garrison, 34-12, on Week 1 of the season.
The winner of the Garrison-Lovelady game will battle the survivor of the Mason (12-0) and Shiner (8-5), who play Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex in Georgetown for the Region IV championship.
In the other regional finals, Seymour (11-2) will take on Stamford (11-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Buckaroo Stadium in Breckenridge for the Region I championship and Muenster (12-0) will square off with Mart (10-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Aledo for the Region II title.
