CENTER, Tx -- A talented group of Center Roughrider 7th grade athletes dismantled the visiting Kirbyville Wildcats Thursday afternoon as the boys in purple cruised to an easy 50-0 victory here at Roughrider Stadium.
Center piled up four touchdowns in the first half and didn't stop after intermission as they cruised to their eighth win in nine games this season.
"This is a very talented bunch of players," said Center coach Tracy Kincade. "They really are a special group and they get better and better every game."
The Roughriders dominated every aspect of the game just as they did the scoreboard. They rolled up nine first downs, while its defense held the Wildcats to just one for the game. Center outgained Kirbyville 116-12 in the running game and 101-0 in the passing attack as CMS accumulated 227 total yards, compared to just 12 for Kirbyville.
The Roughriders forced three fumbles on the night, turning them into 22 points. The final fumble was a 'work of art' as the swarming defense hit the Kirbyville running back in the backfield and Jamison Jackson was there almost as fast as the quarterback could hand the ball off and Jamison Jackson jolted the ball loose and returned it 19 yards for the touchdown.
Seven different Center player carried the ball. Kyle Parks ran twice for 32 yards and a touchdown, while Octavius Evans added 31 yards on two runs. Deon Thedford carried the pigskin four times for 24 yards, Tyler Sigue picked up 13 yards and a score, Jamorian King ran for nine yards and a touchdown and Jeremiah Shaw finished with five yards and a TD.
After holding the Wildcats without a first down on their opening drive, Evans outraced the defense on a flag pattern and he scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass. Thedford tacked on the 2-point conversion and Center led 8-0 with 4:22 left in the opening period.
The Wildcats then coughed the ball up on the first place from scrimmage after the score and Thomas Gardner was there to pounce on the loose ball for Center. Two plays later, Shaw was in the endzone on a 3-yard touchdown run. The try for two failed this time, but Center had already built a 14-0 lead with 3:16 left in the first period.
The Wildcat returner was jolted loose from the ball on the next kickoff and Sigue was there for Center on the Kirbyville 40-yard line. On the fourth play of the drive King caught a 12-yard pass from Evans for the touchdown. Shaw converted the two-point conversion on a double reverse and CMS led 22-0 with 1:22 left in the initial stanza.
Kirbyville finally picked up a first down on its next series, but the Wildcats' drive stalled near midfield.
It took eight plays for the 'Riders to move 55 yards. King scored on a 9-yard run for the touchdown. The try for two failed, but Center had built a 28-0 lead at the half.
The second half was more of the same as Center scored each time it touched the ball. The first score was set up when King returned the kickoff back 39 yards. two plays later Parks bolted up the middle for a 29-yard score creating a 34-0 lead with 5:14 on the clock.
Jackson did the honors for the next score, almost taking the handoff directly in the Kirbyville backfield and then alertly darting down the right sideline for the score. Sigue added the two-point conversion for a 42-0 lead.
The final score came after a quarterback sack on fourth down. Taking over on the Kirbyville 22, Sigue was in the endzone on a 13-yard sprint with 30 seconds remaining.
