The Center middle school football teams both recorded victories in their opening action of the 2011 season. The eighth grade recorded a 24-14 win over Arp, while the seventh grade played a controlled scrimmage and came out on top 6-0 in touchdowns scored.
Both Center teams will be at home Thursday night to take on Henderson. There are 7th grade A&B and 8th grade A&B games scheduled at Roughrider Stadium, with the 7th grade getting underway at 5 p.m.
Center 8th 24, Arp 14 -- Dacorey McGee scored a pair of rushing touchdowns to lead Center to a 24-14 halftime lead and the teams then went scoreless in the final half of play.
Jamie Hubbard added a touchdown on the ground and Cedric Barnes threw a touchdown pass to Kam'ron Park.
Center's defense also played well, holding the Tigers scoreless in the second half of play as the Roughriders improved to 1-0 on the year.
Center 7th 6, Arp 0 -- Cale Park scored two touchdowns on the ground and Octavius Evans caught a pair of scoring tosses as the Center 7th grade 'Riders blitzed Arp, 6-0, in scrimmage play.
Jameson Jackson also hit paydirt for Center, while Jeremiah Shaw ran for a score.
Center quarterback Keyshawn Barnes threw a pair of scoring passes as Center improved to 1-0 on the young season.
The Roughrider defense was also strong, holding Arp to just 30 yards on the night.
