After making a trip to the Class 1A State Track & Field Meet last spring, Cameron Courtney will be once again competing against the state's best. On Oct. 29 the senior posted a second place finish at the District 23-1A Meet, and he followed that up by defeating the field at the Class 1A Region III Cross Country Meet Saturday at North Harris Lone Star College.

The victory earned Courtney a trip to Round Rock this Saturday for the Class 1A State race. He will compete at 1:40 p.m.

The Timpson boys cross country team advanced to the Region III Meet after posting an third-place team finish at the district meet. Members performed even better at regional as Courtney and fellow-senior Armando Sanchez both posted their best times ever.

According to Timpson Cross Country Coach Gerardo Moreno, Courtney pulled away from the field in the second half of the meet to capture the regional championship. He posted a time of 17:30, which was 53 seconds ahead of his second-place time at district. Courtney's time was also 13 seconds faster than the second-place finisher at the regional competition.

Sanchez also had an outstanding effort, placing 15th overall, posting a time of 18:53. His time was 18 seconds faster than the 19:11 he clocked at the District 23-1A Meet. The time was 16 seconds faster than he had run year.

Sanchez missed advancing to State with his teammate by five positions.

The Timpson Lady Bears were also represented at the Region III Meet. Sophomore Kirsten Kimzey placed 44th overall, and posted a personal best time of 14:15 in doing so. Her teammate, Lisa Crawford also competed, but unfortunately was unable to complete the race due to a sprain - or possible fracture - of her ankle, Moreno explained.
