SAN AUGUSTINE -- The Center Lady Riders had to play 'smarter' volleyball, in the words of their coach, when they played the talented San Augustine ballclub Tuesday night. Smarter ball started with defense as Mario Valtierra and Suzanne Peace each posted seven digs apiece in a 3-1 Lady Rider win over the Lady Wolves here at Wolf Gymnasium.

The win was only the second of the year for Center (2-7), but it showed which direction the Lady Riders are going, according to the coach.

Center (1-7) will look to get back on track tonight when they host San Augustine. The junior varsity is set to get underway at 5 p.m., with the varsity to follow.

CENTER -- Just two weeks ago the Center Lady Riders were hoping to make a lot of noise when it came to deciding which District 18-3A teams qualified for the playoffs. But instead of getting ready for postseason play Tuesday night, the Lady Riders went 'silently into the night' as they ended the season with a disappointing 3-0 setback at the hands of District 18-3A champion Carthage at Roughrider Gymnasium. Carthage won the match in straight sets, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-8.
