The new Texas Tennis Coaches Association state ranking are due to be released on Friday and by the way the Center Riders are playing, they're sure to be on the rise. The Riders blew past Spring Hill, 15-4, and Hallsville, 13-6, last Saturday to improve their season mark to a spotless 11-0 mark.

Center, which is ranked 13th in the state in last month's poll, have seen its stock rise with three wins since the last rankings.

The Center boys and girls doubles tandems swept past their Nacogdoches counterparts last Saturday as the 'Riders kept their fall season record perfect at 9-0 with a 17-2 domination of the Class 4A Dragons.

Center and Nacogdoches played six extra matches at the competition, with the 'Riders claiming five of those matches as well.

Despite missing three seniors who were taking ACT tests last Saturday, the Center Roughrider tennis team went on the road and kept its season mark perfect with victories over Jacksonville and Hallsville.

CHS rolled past Jacksonville, 14-5, claiming two more wins for an 'unofficial' 16-6 final. The 'Riders then won the competition with Hallsville, 11-5,

The Center High School tennis team is off to an unbeaten 5-0 start to the young season, recording two straight shutouts to begin fall play.

The 2011-12 team is led by seniors Seth Grant, Jesse Campbell, Jacy Clark, Ross Reynolds, Caroline Chadwick and Julie Wilkins.

The Riders opened the season with a 19-0 win over Nacogdoches, then blanked Kilgore in a rain-shortened 8-0 victory.

Center's Ty Hubbard dominated on the field, on the hardwood and on the track. He was successful in any athletic event that he participated in, whether indoor or outdoor this past year. For his ability to compete at a high level and the success he enjoyed in the 2010-11 school year,  Hubbard received several Center High School Perpetual Athletic awards, being named Most Valuable Player in three sports, the school announced recently.

Center High School tennis coach Leon Dykes has scheduled a pair of tennis clinics this summer for beginner, intermediate and advanced players to sharpen their skills.

The Shelby County Tennis Clinics will be held in two sessions, with Session I taking place from June 27-30 and Session II taking place from August 1-4.

Student-athletes are just that - both students and athletes - and must maintain passing grade point averages to remain eligible to play the sport they wish to participate in. Many athletes go above and beyond the minimum requirements and are recognized for that hard work.

Center sophomore Lady Rider Amber Noble advanced all the way to the semifinals of the girls' singles play on Monday as finished the 2011 campaign no worse than third in the state after posting a 1-1 record at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Tennis Tournament at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center at World of Tennis at Lakeway in Austin.

Three underclassmen on the Center High School tennis team have proved that hard work and determination does pay off as they finished second at the Class 3A Region III Tennis Tournament in Bryan this week to qualify for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Tournament in Austin.

The Center High School tennis team captured yet another District 18-3A championship last Wednesday as 10 CHS athletes will represent the school in five separate divisions at the Class 3A Region III Championship held in Bryan on April 18-19.
