Center High school recently held it's All-Sports banquet at the CHS Cafetorium. Among those athletes honored were Jeremy Small and O'Mattie Swindle, who received the annual R.E. Malone Awards. The R.E. Malone Award is presented each year to the school's top male and female atheltes.

Swindle was a standout athlete in volleyball, basketball and track. She participated in the Region III Track & Field Meet.

ATHENS, Texas -- The Center Roughriders found out how life is in 'true' Class 4A soccer from Waco Tuesday night when they took on Waco Hewit Midway in the Area round of the playoffs and dropped a 3-0 decision here at Bruce Field.

The setback ends another productive season for the 'Riders, who made the playoffs for the second straight season. Center posted a 6-8-2 season mark, while Midway moves on in the playoffs with an impressive 18-2-2 record.

Last season the Center Roughriders soccer team made the playoffs for the first time in the program's history, making a quick exit with a loss to Waco University. The 'Riders are hoping that the returners that played in that postseason contest will use that experience to the squad's benefit as CHS begins its second straight playoff trip in 2010.

For the second consecutive season, the Center boys’ soccer team is headed to the postseason. Unlike last season when the season went down to the wire before the Roughriders received their first-ever postseason berth in the history of the program, CHS secured their spot Tuesday night with a convincing 6-0 victory over Diboll to claim a spot in the 'second season'.

The Center Roughrider soccer team posted a 1-1 tie with Palestine on Friday and then dropped a 4-0 decision to Jacksonville on Monday night in a rain-shortened match at Roughrider Stadium.

Despite not being able to pick up a win, the 'Riders remain in fourth place in the District 35-4A standings and still in control of their own destiny in an effort to qualify for the state playoffs. Center is currently 2-4-1 in league play and 4-6-2 overall.

CENTER -- The Center Roughriders came out slow Wednesday night, falling behind to Hudson 1-0 less than six minutes into their match. But the 'Riders finished strong as they scored the last four goals of the game - including a 3-0 run in the second half - for a 4-1 league win over the Hornets here at Roughrider Stadium.

The Center boys’ soccer team jumped right back into the thick of the District 35-4A playoff race last Friday night, scoring two goals in each half as the Roughriders blew past Diboll, 4-1, at Lumberjack Stadium.

The win, Center's first in league play, moves the 'Riders into a fourth-place tie with Hudson as each team is now 1-3. The top four teams in the league qualify for the playoffs.

With the inclement weather arriving in Shelby County this afternoon and tonight, all athletic events in the county have been either postponed or cancelled, according to various school officials.

CENTER -- The Center Roughriders had several golden scoring opportunities go by the wayside in the first half Tuesday night, but only trailed Nacogdoches 1-0 at intermission in this key District 35-4A matchup. But when offensive leader Julio Martinez was red carded in the second half and CHS was forced to play a man down, they couldn't get past the Dragons as NHS recorded a 4-0 decision here at Roughrider Stadium.
