CENTER, Tx -- Center's Aaron Liker and Garrett Stanley captured top honors in the 242-lb. and 165-lb. weight classes, respectively, to lead the Roughriders to their ninth straight meet title as they edged second-place Huntington Thursday night at the Center Powerlifting Meet here in Roughrider Gymnasium.

CENTER, Tx -- Led by four first-place finishes, the Center Lady Riders outlasted a Huntington team that dominated the lightweight divisions and posted the meet's Best Lifter for the heavy platform Thursday night to clip the Devilettes as the CHS took a one-point victory here at the Center Powerlifting Meet in Roughrider Gymnasium.

Center Lady Rider powerlifters Chakera Ingram and Gaby Mireles earned top honors Saturday as they led the Center Lady Rider powerlifting team to the championship at the Hemphill Powerlifting Meet.

Ingram earned Best Lifter on the light platform at the one-day event, while Mireles was named Best Lifter for the heavy platform.

Two Shelby County athletes posted strong climaxes to their 2011 powerlifting season by finishing in the Top 10 in their respective weight classes at the State Powerlifting Meet held Saturday at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Center's Kevinski Pitts made a return trip to the State meet, equaling his 2010 finish of seventh in Division 2 (Class 3A) as he bumped up and competed in the 220-pound weight class in 2011.

It was a disappointing finish to a successful powerlifting season for two area high school athletes at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet held Saturday in Corpus Christi.

Shelbyville's Kelsi Griffin and Center's Chakera Ingram both earned the trip, with Griffin competing against the state's best for the second straight year and Ingram making her first visit to lift at Corpus Christi.

Area powerlifters competed against the best in all Region III classifications last weekend as they battled to qualify for a position in the coveted Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet. Center's Kevinski Pitts earned the right to return to the annual event for the second straight year after finishing second in the 220-pound weight class last Saturday in Rusk.

Two Shelby County powerlifters will compete against the state's best Saturday when Center's Chakera Ingram and Shelbyville's Kelsi Griffin compete in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet held in Corpus Christi.

Ingram squatted 285 pounds, bench pressed 120 pounds and dead lifted 375 pounds to place third at the Class 3A Region III competition held several weeks ago in Forney. She was in the 148-pound weight class and totaled 780 total pounds between the three events.

Her nickname is 'Chucky', and to the other regional qualifiers at the Girls' Region III Powerlifting Meet in Forney last weekend, she was pretty scary. Center's Chakera Ingram set a new Region III record in her weight class and has qualified for the State Powerlifting Meet with a third-place finish on Saturday.

The Girls' State Powerlifting Meet is set for March 18 in Corpus Christi.

The Center Roughrider powerlifting team recently posted its second straight strong finish, wining the Diboll Invitational. CHS outscored nine other team to take the title.

Melvin Suell claimed top honors in the 123-lb. class with a total of 830 pounds, while Justin Lovett and Jetarvis Jackson placed second and third, respectively, in the 148-lb. class. Lovett tallied 1,045 pounds in the deadlift, squat and bench press, while Jackson lifted 990 pounds.

Led by three first-place finishes, the Center Roughrider powerlifting team captured top honors in its first meet of the season last Thursday, claiming the Huntington Meet with 43 points.

Melvin Suell, Justin Lovett and Kevinski Pitts led the Center lifters, who also posted two second-place finishes, a pair of third-places, two fourth-place finishes and a two fifth-place efforts at the meet.
