Center High school recently held it's All-Sports banquet at the CHS Cafetorium. Among those athletes honored were Jeremy Small and O'Mattie Swindle, who received the annual R.E. Malone Awards. The R.E. Malone Award is presented each year to the school's top male and female atheltes.

Swindle was a standout athlete in volleyball, basketball and track. She participated in the Region III Track & Field Meet.

Center senior powerlifter Jeremy Small has been named Shelby County Co-Athlete of the Week for events taking place March 21-27 when he advanced to the State Powerlifting Meet for the second straight year.

Small finished fourth in the 165-pound class in 2010 after posting a 4th-place showing at State a year ago. Small lifted 515 pounds in the squat competition, then bench pressed 280 pounds and dead lifted 535 pounds.

Center's Jeremy Small's size is very deceiving. His teammate, Kevinski Pitts, backs down to no one. The duo overcame the odds and came through with outstanding performances Saturday at the Division 2 State Powerlifting Meet in the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene and posted fourth and seventh finishes, respectively, in their weight classes to represent the Roughriders well.

Two members of the Center powerlifting team will be representing the district at the State Class 3A State High School Powerlifting Meet in Abilene on March 27 after first-place showings at the Region III Meet Saturday at Rusk High School. As a team, Center finished 5th with 14 points.

For Jeremy Small it will be a return trip to State after posting a 4th-place showing in 2009. For Kevinski Pitts, it will be his first trip to face Texas' best.

Four members of the Center High School boys' powerlifting team have qualified for the Class 3A Region III Powerlifting Meet which will be held at Rusk High School. On the line will be a trip to the State meet, which would be a return trip for CHS lifter Jeremy Small.

Center powerlifters Jeremy Small and Kevinski Pitts continue to improve as they head toward the Class 3A Region III Meet. Both recorded victories in their respective weight classes at Diboll and Chapel Hill as they led the Roughriders to a first and fourth-place finishes, respectively.

A pair of Center Lady Rider powerlifters qualified for the Class 3A Region III Meet in Forney on Saturday and, although they didn't earn a spot at the State Meet, they did come through with a pair of impressive performances.

Lady Rider freshman KaDijah Cooper equaled her best total lift at the Regional Meet in the 123-lb. Class. She qualified with a total lift of 580 pounds and equaled that on Saturday. Her total gave her a sixth-place finish, one place out of the medal round.

Jeremy Small captured three top individual lift honors Saturday as the Center boys powerlifting team posted its second straight third-place finish, coming through with a strong outing at the Overton Invitational.

The Center Lady Riders also competed at the meet, placing 7th out of 16 teams.

The Center boys and girls powerlifting squads both tied for third place Saturday in their initial meet of the year when they participated in the Rusk Powerlifting Meet.

In the individual competitions, Center's Jeremy Small won the 165-lb. weight class and Kevinski Pitts placed second in the 200-lb. weight class in the boys division, while Lady Riders' Gaby Mireles and Jessica Williams both took second in their respective weight classes in the girls division.
