CENTER, Tx -- The Center 8th grade battled Kirbyville even in a shootout early on Thursday evening, but then the contest turned into a defensive battle in the second half as the teams fought to a 22-22 standoff at Roughrider Stadium in the season finale for both squads.

TaKory McGee was the workhorse of the Center offense, carrying the ball 12 times for 84 yards and a touchdown, while hauling in two passes for 55 yards.

CENTER, Tx -- A talented group of Center Roughrider 7th grade athletes dismantled the visiting Kirbyville Wildcats Thursday afternoon as the boys in purple cruised to an easy 50-0 victory here at Roughrider Stadium.

Center piled up four touchdowns in the first half and didn't stop after intermission as they cruised to their eighth win in nine games this season.

Center High School will be showing off its newly installed artificial turf surface at Roughrider Stadium this summer when it hosts a youth football camp next week.

According to CISD Athletic Director Kevin Goodwin, the Center Roughrider Football Camp is set for next Wednesday and Thursday, July 20-21, at the newly renovated stadium. The camp will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. both days.

Dwight Preston is planning on bringing in a number of past, present and future professional football athletes next month as he hosts the 20th Annual Preston Football Camp.

The one-day camp is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will be held either at the newly renovated Roughrider Stadium or on the practice field next to it, Preston said this week. The exact location depends on the status of work on the new track at the stadium.

CENTER -- In this age of the specialized sports athlete, players such as those who attended Saturday's 19th Annual Preston Football Camp were eager to soak up as much information on the positions they might want to play in the future as they prepare for their respective junior high or high school careers.

Once again the Center Independent School District is joining forces with the City of Center to give the youth of the area something to keep them occupied and giving them a learning experience by offering the S.E.A. Camp during the month of June.

The Center 8th Grade boys basketball team (pictured at right) recently captured the District 18-3A Championship. The 'Riders posted a 6-2 record against league competition and a 16-2 mark overall. The Center Middle School Roughrider 7th Grade 'B' team completed an undefeated 8-0 season mark with a 6-5 win over Carthage Monday night at home to claim the District 18-3A Championship. The Center Middle School 7th Grade 'A' boys (pictured at right) completed an 11-1 season and a spotless 9-0 District 18-3A record Monday night with a 38-13 victory over arch-rival Carthage.
