CENTER -- In this age of the specialized sports athlete, players such as those who attended Saturday's 19th Annual Preston Football Camp were eager to soak up as much information on the positions they might want to play in the future as they prepare for their respective junior high or high school careers.

Once again the Center Independent School District is joining forces with the City of Center to give the youth of the area something to keep them occupied and giving them a learning experience by offering the S.E.A. Camp during the month of June.

The Center 8th Grade boys basketball team (pictured at right) recently captured the District 18-3A Championship. The 'Riders posted a 6-2 record against league competition and a 16-2 mark overall. The Center Middle School Roughrider 7th Grade 'B' team completed an undefeated 8-0 season mark with a 6-5 win over Carthage Monday night at home to claim the District 18-3A Championship. The Center Middle School 7th Grade 'A' boys (pictured at right) completed an 11-1 season and a spotless 9-0 District 18-3A record Monday night with a 38-13 victory over arch-rival Carthage. The only team to defeat Center was Class 5A Lufkin in a non-district matchup. Members of the team include (front row, from left) Darrel Barnes, Johnny Shaw, Taylor Tomlin, Traven Bolton and C.J. The Center Middle School girls teams struggled in their final contests of the season at Carthage, winning only 1-of-3 games.

The CMS 7th grade 'B' girls took a 5-2 victory. Diana Espinosa scored three points and Kannon Woodhatch added two more for the Lady Riders.

The Center 7th 'A' girls dropped a 30-12 decision to the Lady Bulldogs. Marissa Macias scored six points to pace the Lady Riders. Lyric Smith contributed four points, while Brianna Nash added two.

Two Center Middle School boys basketball teams captured District 18-3A championships Monday night in the Roughrider Middle School Gymnasium. They clinched the titles with wins over arch-rival Carthage.

Johnny Shaw and Darrel Barnes combined for 30 points Monday night as the Center Middle School 7th grade 'A' team recorded a 50-35 victory over Rusk at the Roughrider Middle School Gymnasium.

Shaw led all Roughrider scorers with 16 points, while Barnes dropped in 14 in the 7th 'A' victory.

In 8th grade 'B' action, Sanswalez Choyce poured in 12 points to lead CMS past Rusk, 24-6.

The Center Middle School Lady Rider squads struggled Monday night on the road, dropping two out of three games to Rusk.

The Lady Eagles knocked off the Lady Rider 8th grade, 39-13. Lacey Evans dropped in 10 points for CMS.

In seventh grade action, The Center 7th grade 'A' squad dropped a 22-12 decision. Lyric Smith paced the Lady Riders with seven points.
