Former Nacogdoches Dragon basketball player Damion James will be in the National Basketball Association next season after he was drafted by the Eastern Conference's New Jeresey Nets on Thursday.

The 6'7", 226-pound guard/forward for the University of Texas Longhorns  for the last four years, is a 2006 graduate of Nacogdoches High School.

The 2010 Danny Kaspar Basketball Camps will be held June 20-24 and August 9-13. The camps are open to boys entering grades 2-12 and will be held on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Center High school recently held it's All-Sports banquet at the CHS Cafetorium. Among those athletes honored were Jeremy Small and O'Mattie Swindle, who received the annual R.E. Malone Awards. The R.E. Malone Award is presented each year to the school's top male and female atheltes.

Swindle was a standout athlete in volleyball, basketball and track. She participated in the Region III Track & Field Meet.

JACKSONVILLE -- When Center guard Ty Hubbard made a no-look pass to Jaelyn Short for a layup with 2:47 remaining in the third quarter Friday night here in the Vivian and Bob Smith Event Center, the Roughriders appeared to be well on their way to a berth in the regional quarterfinal contest as they led the Mexia Blackcats 49-32.

Funeral services for Joaquin teacher and coach, Scott Owens, have been set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Joaquin ISD gymnasium, with Bro. Charles Williams and Bro. Randy Smith officiating. He was 48 years of age. Interment will follow at Price Cemetery in Joaquin.

TENAHA -- The Center Roughriders played with a collective heavy heart Saturday night as they found out a common friend had passed away just hours before their warm-up contest with Sabine in the Tenaha Special Events Center. But, with the game on the line, the 'Riders pulled together and held off a pesky Sabine squad for their 17th consecutive win, a 53-52 win.

CENTER -- On a night when nine seniors were recognized for their years of dedicated to the basketball program in Center, the Roughriders continued their season of 'Unfinished Business', which has been their motto, and secured the first undefeated district team since 1991 with a 61-51 victory over Jasper here in Roughrider Gymnasium.

But when great teams need something a little extra, players step up their game to a new level to help the squad in a big game. That's what this week's ShelbyCountySports.com Male and Female Athletes of the Week did in Shelby County when Ty Hubbard of Center and Ashlee Ray of Tenaha picked up their respective squads.

Damian Bolton hit 9-of-14 field goals for 20 points and teammate Jonathan Taldo pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds while blocking five shots Monday night as the Center Roughriders claimed the undisputed District 18-3A Championship with a convincing 54-39 win over Huntington in Red Devil Gymnasium.
