Center High School administrators have announced that several groups of seniors will be recognized at athletic events this week on the CHS campus.

The senior Lady Rider volleyball players will be recognized at Tuesday night's (Oct. 27) volleyball match against Carthage. The final varsity game of the season will follow the freshmen (5 p.m. start) and junior varsity matches at Roughrider Gymnasium.

NACOGDOCHES -- There's one thing for sure, Shelby County high school bands know their stuff; their performances Saturday proved it.

All five county high schools were well represented Saturday at the University Interscholastic League Region XXI Marching Contest here at Stephen F. Austin's Homer Bryce Stadium, and they were among the best at the competition as they were among the 40 which competed in Class 1A-5A.

The Center ISD homecoming bonfire that was postponed Monday night has been tentatively rescheduled for tonight (Thursday) after the middle school football games at Roughrider Stadium, according to high school officials.

There is one 7th grade and one 8th grade game scheduled to be played at the stadium, beginning at 5 p.m. If there is no rain during those games, the bonfire will take place just north of the stadium immediately afterwards, it was announced this morning.

Bands from the five Shelby County school districts will participate in the annual Region XXI University Interscholastic League marching band competition on Saturday (Oct. 17) at Homer Bryce Stadium on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. They will join bands from across the East Texas area competing against a set standard for division ratings assigned by a panel of three adjudicators.

Center High School kicks off its Homecoming Week with the Homecoming Bon Fire at Roughrider Stadium on Monday, Oct. 12 at 8:30 p.m.

The community is encouraged to come support the team and all the high school performing groups including the CHS twirlers, the Chaparrals, and the award winning CHS Cheerleaders.

The event, of course, is free of charge and fun for all ages.  Alumni are especially invited to come and share.
